This name was used for the heroine of the Mexican folk song "La Adelita," one of the most famous corridos to come out of the Mexican Revolution. The song tells the story of a young woman in love with a sergeant. She traveled with him and his regiment. Due to this song, the term "La Adelita" came to signify a woman of strength and courage, the archetype of a woman warrior.
