Role Responsibilities
Do you want to help support a fair marketplace in Alberta? The Consumer, Registry, and Strategic Services Division is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized individual with strong leadership and communication skills to join our team. Through the Consumer Services Branch, the ministry supports a fair, effective marketplace for landlords and tenants.
The Market and Industry Standards unit is seeking a Statute Administrator to be responsible for the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) and Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act (MHSTA), as well as other consumer protection legislation. You will provide expert legislative, policy and program analysis and advice to politicians, staff, and external and internal stakeholders. You will respond to public enquiries, develop recommendations, policies and processes, and implement legislative amendments to ensure an informed and fair marketplace.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player is crucial.
The policy and client service work undertaken by the incumbent is complex and requires compassion and tact when dealing with highly emotional issues. Excellent communication and human relation skills are required.
Reporting to the Manager of Market and Industry Standards, you will be responsible for:
Providing expert legislative, policy, program analysis, advice and statute interpretation on the Residential Tenancies Act, Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act, and other pieces of consumer protection legislation, including the Franchises Act.
Developing policy recommendations to address legislative and consumer issues, make recommendations on changes to legislation or regulations to resolve issues to meet business plan objectives to assist Albertans more efficiently and effectively.
Engaging with stakeholders and responding to inquiries from the public on consumer issues to ensure tenants, consumers, businesses, and authorities are aware of rights and responsibilities of all parties and coordinating communication with stakeholders.
Working with Compliance and Accountability in respect to inspection reports under the Residential Tenancies Act and Mobile Home Sites Tenancies Act.
Providing subject matter expertise to Communications, on policy and legislative projects, and assist other branches or ministries as required.
Monitoring their regulatory areas for market changes or risks to the public and make recommendations or provide direction on policy, process, legislative, and regulatory matters.
