Mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
The Partnerships, Investments and Enablement business group is the external-facing part of the Ministry for the Environment:
We partner and collaborate with others working in the environmental management system.
We perform system oversight functions as part of the Ministry's stewardship role.
We manage the Ministry's investment in external initiatives.
We support others to implement policy using a range of regulatory and non-regulatory approaches.
We lead delivery of major multi-agency programmes.
We are the central point of coordination for the Ministry's external affairs.
We are looking for an experienced Chief Advisor to work closely alongside the Deputy Secretary to lead and support the Ministry's work programme.
You will provide intellectual leadership across the work programme, providing high-quality advice to Ministers and senior leaders on complex issues. Your work will be varied while also having a consistent focus on supporting and improving the Ministry's investment management.

Our ideal candidate will bring:
deep policy experience and policy acumen, including at the interface of operational delivery.
expert experience in investment management, including the design of high-quality investment arrangements.
exemplary interpersonal skills and agility to lead, influence and manoeuvre through complex interagency and political situations effectively.
political savvy in terms of tact, discretion and diplomacy.
experience leading and delivering complex work programmes across government.
understanding of how policy changes impact people and organisations on the ground.
an ability to understand different worldviews, particularly te ao Māori, as part of ensuring the Ministry's work is effective across different population groups.
experience in economic policy and/or modelling would be useful.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $198,483 to $240,501 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
