Job Description: Individualised Support Teacher (Shadow Teacher)
Position Title: IST for Year 2 Student
Location: Panyaden International School
Reports To: Primary School Principal, with oversight from Learning Support
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time (as applicable)
Overview:
The Individualised Support Teacher (Shadow Teacher) will provide one-on-one support to a Year 2 student with social-emotional and behavioural challenges. This will enable the student to access the school curriculum, build positive relationships, and develop essential skills for success in the classroom. The role requires patience, empathy, and adaptability to address the student's unique needs while fostering their independence and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Individualised Student Support:
- Work closely with the assigned student to implement strategies that promote focus, engagement, and appropriate behaviour in the classroom.
- Support the development of social-emotional skills, including self-regulation, emotional awareness, and interpersonal communication.
- Assist the student with tasks, transitions, and routines as needed, encouraging independence whenever possible.
2. Collaboration with Staff and Parents:
- Communicate regularly with the class teacher, learning support team, and parents to provide updates on the student's progress and challenges.
- Participate in meetings to discuss strategies, accommodations, and the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Actively contribute to the development and review of IEP goals and strategies.
3. Classroom Integration:
- Facilitate the student's integration into group activities and support positive peer interactions.
- Provide in-the-moment behavioural intervention when needed, using school-approved techniques.
- Collaborate with the teacher to modify lessons or materials as required to suit the student's learning needs.
4. Documentation and Monitoring:
- Maintain accurate records of the student's daily progress, behaviours, and any incidents that occur.
- Provide regular updates to the …. and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Background: Diploma or degree in Education, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience working with young children, particularly those with social-emotional or behavioural challenges, in a school setting is an advantage.
- Key Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and support staff.
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability in a multicultural environment.
Work Environment and Conditions:
The Shadow Teacher will work primarily in the classroom, accompanying the student throughout the school day. Some flexibility may be required to support extracurricular activities or off-campus events as needed.
