womenshealth 5-0 mile week. 🎉 No idea when the last time I hit this mileage (March 2018?). Ran 6 of 7 days...some early morning, some post-work and bedtimes for the boys, some mid-day. I function better with a schedule but I’m trying to be flexible since life is crazy right now and finding an hour to run each day takes some finagling. It’s not perfect and I’m sure runs will be skipped, but it’s working for now.
Today was 17 miles that felt hard from about mile 4 on. Just never loosened up or found my rhythm. Funny how last week’s 16 miler was smooth and joyful and today I wanted to poke my eyes out.🤷🏻‍♀️ When I’m in the middle of a run like this I try to tell myself these runs make me stronger, mentally. I see many of you say “Fall is in the air” while over here we say Florida Humidity: “It’s so hot even the air is sweating”
Needless to say, long runs are no fun in this kind of weather. I try not to get all down on myself when I can barely make it to 10 without stopping  but there are so many factors that take place, one including the weather! .
.
As runners we have to acclimate to all kinds of weather conditions; I mean hello Boston 2018 was a Monsoon! 
BUT if we go out mentally prepared I think we accomplish just about anything and everything. It’s true!!
Case and point: the moment I stepped out the door I was smacked in the face with dead heat as early as 6am. That threw me completely off because the air was heavy, sticky, warm and I just knew it was already game over me. .

With a clearer mind and just taking one step at a time I could have successfully completed this run. 
It’s unlike me to think negatively but it does happen every once in awhile especially when your motivation is no where to be found. I wanted to share this because I will be the first to admit that I have been struggling this training cycle. And to put it in to perspective, I felt stronger back in March when I ran 15 miles (still to this day my longest run PP). I need to get my mind right, give myself some grace, and simply ride this heat to the best of my abilities.
I just have to be patient with my body and accept the fact that this is ONLY my second training plan ever 👊🏼

I somewhat expected it after the 3 negative pregnancy tests, but I was still holding out hope. Hoping that there was a small chance I was actually pregnant and the pregnancy test just didn’t pick up on it. But the blood test doesn’t lie. . . womenshealth I’ve never been the fit girl. I didn’t lift weights or play sports in high school. My fitness journey only started about a year and a half ago. I was CLUELESS about supplements and especially pre-workout. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I was lucky that the first brand I tried: tasted good ✅ made me feel great ✅ and made a HUGE difference in what I was able to push through during a workout 🏋🏽‍♀️. I alternate between lemon and fruit punch flavors. I drink it before I rock climb 🧗🏻‍♀️ Not gonna lie, sometimes I ditch the coffee and make a glass before a long night of studying too. 📚 Pre-workout shouldn’t be a well kept secret in exclusive fitness cults. Pre-workout can be an awesome tool for anyone doing whatever physical activity feels good to them. How did you move your body this weekend? … I thought high doses of toxins was the biggest concern, until I learned about that hormone disruptors impact a child’s healthy development, even at very low concentrations.

There was so much information (and opinions) being tossed around about what was “best” for raising a healthy child. I am a very logical person, and I had become slightly hysterical. womenshealth Before getting pregnant, I got into menstrual cycle awareness tracking the days of my cycle, the physical, emotional and mental fluctuations as I went through the 4 seasons of my cycle... I have even synced with the moon (it's quite amazing how a woman's monthly cycle is 28 days on average ... just like the moon cycle. What's even more amazing is that most women bleed on the new moon and ovulate during the full moon - I definitely do.) But then pregnancy came along and my cycle took the backstage. .
And I couldn't wait for it to return... I was yearning to get into the magic of tracking my menstrual cycle again discovering the wisdom that comes with it for me as a woman... And so it came 9 months after I gave birth. I was amazed that women can get their period back somewhere between 6 weeks and 18 months after giving birth! Even while breastfeeding (my case.)

So while I was expressing my excitement with other women, I felt that many of them didn't share my enthusiasm... Many women look at their cycles as a hindrance. As something to be shut down and discarded. I felt left out and alone but then I remember the women who are just like me, practicing menstrual cycle awareness, and I felt ease and like I'm part of a secret women's business movement ⚡️. I am in awe of how so many of us don't know the power that our cycle holds for all of us, grown-up women, and that we don't teach this to our girls growing up. .

Before getting pregnant, I got into menstrual cycle awareness tracking the days of my cycle, the physical, emotional and mental fluctuations as I went through the 4 seasons of my cycle... I have even synced with the moon (it's quite amazing how a woman's monthly cycle is 28 days on average ... just like the moon cycle. What's even more amazing is that most women bleed on the new moon and ovulate during the full moon - I definitely do.) But then pregnancy came along and my cycle took the backstage. . And I couldn't wait for it to return... I was yearning to get into the magic of tracking my menstrual cycle again discovering the wisdom that comes with it for me as a woman... And so it came 9 months after I gave birth. I was amazed that women can get their period back somewhere between 6 weeks and 18 months after giving birth! Even while breastfeeding (my case.) . So while I was expressing my excitement with other women, I felt that many of them didn't share my enthusiasm... Many women look at their cycles as a hindrance. As something to be shut down and discarded. I felt left out and alone but then I remember the women who are just like me, practicing menstrual cycle awareness, and I felt ease and like I'm part of a secret women's business movement ⚡️. I am in awe of how so many of us don't know the power that our cycle holds for all of us, grown-up women, and that we don't teach this to our girls growing up. . This lifestyle change completely transformed our family. That sick feeling on Sundays? Gone. Sadness anticipating a new week away from my baby? Gone. It was all replaced with joy, doing something I love - helping people live healthier lives, and getting paid for it!

I ran home to this boy 🐶 after completing a long 10 mile run!! My legs started feeling pretty tight at the end of the trail. I was sure to stretch and use my foam roller. I also found some relief by taking an Epsom salt bath. When I first got off of birth control I started using a simple charting app so I knew when my ovulation was. It told me every 14 days since the first day of my last period. I’m so glad that I did not rely on this for long because the average menstrual is actually 21-35 days long. We are all different and all of our menstrual cycles are different. ✨

Some of us will ovulate on days 13-15 or some of us will ovulate on day 17-20. All of our menstrual cycles are unique to us and there are women that ovulate on day 14, but not everyone. ✨

I now thankfully see the importance of tracking your cycle rather than relying on an app. If we assume that we all ovulate on day 14 we assume that anyone who has longer or shorter than a 28 day cycle is a problem, we avoid unprotected sex around this day but if you ovulate later than day 14 you still have a chance of becoming pregnant, and by tracking your cycle you can identify whether or not there is truly a problem. ✨

My menstrual cycle is 27-29 days long and I usually ovulate on day 15-18. Depending on what’s happened that month 😊 and I’m pretty damn proud to say that I know my body more than anyone else!

All of our menstrual cycles are unique to us and there are women that ovulate on day 14, but not everyone. ✨ I now thankfully see the importance of tracking your cycle rather than relying on an app. If we assume that we all ovulate on day 14 we assume that anyone who has longer or shorter than a 28 day cycle is a problem, we avoid unprotected sex around this day but if you ovulate later than day 14 you still have a chance of becoming pregnant, and by tracking your cycle you can identify whether or not there is truly a problem. ✨ My menstrual cycle is 27-29 days long and I usually ovulate on day 15-18. Lyndsay is a cancer survivor with an incredible story! "I've had gut issues my whole life. Constipation was a major issue for me as a child that created a lot of anxious feelings, disinterest in eating and quite a bit of discomfort. I learned very young what laxatives were. I also began suffering from chronic migraines at the age of 12. Fast forward to my mid-twenties, and I was diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia. I spent the next 18 months undergoing chemo therapy for the cancer, and also went through menopause twice during that time. When it was all over, I felt so much better than I had during my treatments that I thought I was back to normal. I still had constipation and migraines, but that was nothing "out of the ordinary". But as the years went by and we adopted our two kids, I wasn't feeling great. Things like brain fog and the need to nap every day with the kids I attributed to just being a parent. Things like water retention and numbness and tingling in my feet, joint pain and crankiness I attributed to "getting old" (in my early 30s). Odd skin irritations, breakouts, and mood swings I attributed to "something hormonal". I chose to live with all of these issues because I thought they were "normal". But I also had a demolished immune system. Having small children, plus all of my white cells being annihilated repeatedly by chemo for 1.5 years left my immune system struggling. I was sick 8 out of 12 months for a couple years straight, and it was making me feel very low and anxious. Not to mention cranky with my kids. I took all this stuff to my doctor and said "COOK. Something's not right. Help!" I was sent to an endocrinologist, nutritionist, and trainer. For 12 months I was put on a very strict plan of diet, exercise, supplements (including fancy probiotics), blood work. After 12 months, there was ZERO improvement. I felt exactly the same, but super discouraged. That was when I got "desperate enough" to try Plexus. Getting outside feels SO good. The fresh air is so refreshing and energizing. As the seasons change and the island becomes more rainy I’m trying to make a point of still getting outdoors. My boy Thor 🐶 here actually loves the fall! His seasonal allergies calm down and the cooler temperature makes for longer walks. ⁣

Whether you’re off to work or school 🏫 , getting the kids ready, or making sure that you’re well nourished after an all-nighter with the baby 👶, it’s important to take the time for yourself in the morning - even if it’s just five minutes to breathe🧘🏻‍♀️. Believe it or not, the bathroom is my favourite room in my home. Why? Because it’s my sanctuary, filled with all my pretty things organized how I like them, where I feel relaxed and happy. To make my hygiene routine go quickly in the morning, I like to set out the products💄I intend to use daily on the counter within easy reach to eliminate any decision making or thought 💭 process when I’m in a rush. Then, I’ll make sure to have time for breakfast ☕️ before leaving the house. That way I can be in the right headspace for my day because I feel energetic, healthy and confident👌.
