Last week much of the snow melted and Lovey the Moose has certainly appreciated it. Many ask if I will feed Lovey or her calf and the answer in no. Lovey’s calf will likely spend just two winters with its mother and the life lessons learned are most critical. To feed the calf would be like removing a child from school so they could stay home and relax. Survival is hard in the forest and moose must be constantly looking for food to sustain their massive body weight. Fortunately I’ve never seen the wilderness so green this far into winter, and it’s provided a huge advantage to Lovey and her baby’s survival. They both look extraordinarily strong and healthy.✨ As we approach the Christmas holiday here’s a happy picture of me with Lovey to convey our best wishes and thanks for your incredible support and kindness. From your messages I have found renewed inspiration and an end to the loneliness that sometimes touches those living on the edge of wilderness. I named this account after my beloved dog Shiloh, who I mourn to this day. The word “Shiloh” is derived from the biblical meaning of “Place of Peace”. It is my sincere hope that through your participation this continues to be a “place of peace”, where we can share as equals in our wonderful and miraculous world. From Alaska to you, thank you for your friendship, and may kind providence bring to you love and happiness always. With respect and affection, Dan✨Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! 🎄💫🌎

A morning I can’t put into words. We woke up at an early hour, and watched the sky light up with hues of orange and red. @cassieworden braved the weather and went out for a swim while the sun came up. Would you swim in the rain?🌿
Cold, blustery. Movement becomes the heat source in these type of moments. Making it all the more daunting to stand still for a photo. What are the worst conditions you’ve ever experienced trying to get a photo?
I was standing at the edge of a cliff, all geared up with ropes, carabiners, safety harness & what not. When I looked down, I immediately cursed myself for doing it. Because it was a 90ft descend & I was supposed to get down from there. Sounds crazy, right I shrugged off all the thoughts from my mind & started listening to the last moment instructions and rechecking all the locks. They say fear is not good for great. And this rappelling thing was one of the greatest fear I could ever imagine. But there I was, just one step away, in overcoming that fear. I had the option of quitting. But I didn't. My heart beats got faster as if they wanted to get in rhythm with the sound of falling water. I took a deep breath & started getting down. First few steps were like, "Ohh, this seems quite easy. Let's do it."And then I looked up at my friend(who was just a stranger a few hours ago) who was supposed to go next. She looked at me & smiled. I still don't know, whether it was her smile or my foot got slipped. But a very next moment. Bammm!!! I hit hard on the rock, thanks to the safety helmet, that I didn't get any injury. But the water flow was so powerful that I felt like someone is hitting me hard punches on my face. That was damn scary. But I regained my position & started getting down, this time with more precision. Finally, when I got down, a sense of relief rushed through my entire body. I looked up & it felt like a warrior who just won the battle & conquered his only fear. I waited there at the base point. Now it was her turn. #riverplategram#riverdale#riverside#riverdaleedits #watercolor_daily #waterfall #pictureoftheday#instagood#watercoursefoods #instagood#bestoftheday#view#pictureoftheday#nature#tagwagai#water#waterresources #wilderness#geologicalphenomenon#adventure#jaggiegill#nature#himachalpradesh#memories#enjoylife .

There's a quite joy in the mountains. In challenging our selves to our limits and pushing pass them. ~~
Yesterday went to try and summit El Toro Peak through Trail Winds. The trail was destroy by Huracán María. Leaving just a reminisce of what it once was. Covered by landslides, untamed jungle/rainforest, and deadly hidden ravines all my outdoors knowledge was put to the test. Trailing finding was hard. Sometimes our trekking poles would just disappear into the jungle letting us know there was nothing there, but a steep fall. Finding our footing was hard, we would step into the abyss only to find nothing. Falling between rocks, crossing rivers, climbing up through recent landslides, slipping and sliding we stumbled through. After realizing we where losing sunlight and not prepared for the challenge. We put our egos aside and decided to turn back.
I was disappoint in myself for not preparing better, for being overconfident. But the mountains will be there and I will come back for it. Better prepared. Knowing what to expect and hopefully be ready for the unexpected. 💜🌄💜🌄💜 .
#nature - Being in nature is something that has always been special to me throughout my life. In the wild you can find quite and balance. There is no noise pollution at all only birds and animals, trees and wind, you and the wild. Plant a tree. Make the earth a little greener for the next generation. #life#perspective#balance#love#planting#tree#trees #wild#wilderness
