Holding ourselves accountable to our reading goals this summer! [In partnership with @disneybooks ] We went to the library last week to sign up for the summer reading program and I printed out this punch card to keep track of her progress!
We are halfway through the first book in the #serafinaseries; Serafina and the Black Cloak. This is a dark and thrilling series that has hooked both of us (similar to Coraline and A Tale Dark and Grimm)! We have been reading together each night and are at the edge of our seats to find out the dark secrets of the Vanderbilt estate and what lies in the forest.
Head over to my stories where you can get the link to this punch card! We are incentivizing achievements with the summer reading punch card by taking special trips to the ice cream parlor. Would love to get some other incentive ideas! What do you do to celebrate your reading milestones?

Our 2019 Diverse Summer Reading List is out now! Summer reading should be a time for exploring and building a love of reading - but too many summer reading lists rely on outdated book recommendations that don't reflect our students. Use our list to help create an inclusive, exciting summer reading list that all students can see themselves in. We include book recommendations for grade bands PreK-2, Grades 3-5, and Grades 6-8. Find it online at https://www.leeandlow.com/educators/reading-lists/diverse-summer-reading-list

We are over halfway through summer reading! Next week be on the look out for a special edition newsletter featuring lots of pictures from June’s children’s programs. We had so much fun! Also, we will be doing our first prize drawing! Biddy’s on Main has generously donated 5 pizzas to the Summer Reading Program. We will be giving away two next week. All kids who attended the programs will be placed in the drawing. We will draw for the other three at the beginning of August. See next week’s newsletter to learn how to be eligible. We will also be giving away a special book to the child who reaches Neptune first on our Space Race Reading progress chart. You must bring in your reading log for verification. (Please do not move any rockets but your own!) Thank you to all who have participated so far and keep reading! Final reading logs are due August 20. #summerreadingprogram#auniverseofstories#shermancountylibrary
