Grindell's Hut in the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges - a place surrounded on all sides by mountains. It's hard to do it justice, but I did learn that if you're going to murder someone and deny it, don't get drunk and confess. Seems straight forward.
John Grindell owned the Wortupa Station (now part of the national park) back in the early 1900s. His son-in-law and part-owner of the neighbouring station (Yankaninna), George Snell accused him of stealing livestock. Snell later disappeared and indigenous trackers found the site where Snell's body was most likely cremated. Grindell denied knowing anything about Snell's disappearance, but confessed to murdering him while drunk one night. In 1918, he was sentenced to death, which was commuted to a life sentence with hard labour. He was released in 1928 and died in 1930.
Wortupa Station became part of Balcanoona Station and two more buildings were constructed at Grindell's Hut. Balcanoona was eventually transformed into the Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and the original Grindell's Hut has been restored.
Who’s been to Injidup Natural Spa? It’s amazing. My photos just don’t do it justice (if anyone has photography tips please send them my way 🤣). The only selfie that I attempt and I have a fly on my lip 😳🤦♀️
Make sure you add it to your list of things to do these holidays. #southernstarslife#injidupnaturalspa#sundaymorningsdoneright
A Tasmanian Devil does his rounds @featherdalewildlifepark running around and around in circles for me. I’m not sure if this is Saxon or Vandal, who are the two brothers that recently arrived here.
I always find that the Devils love to run in circles, which they do for hours on end until they get bored and go to sleep. It’s very hard to get shots of them in focus as they run with any camera, let alone with a 100MP sensor medium format camera like this.
I never ceased to be amazed how shiny their little noses are! So cute.
Did you know Tasmanian Devils originally existed throughout the Australian mainland along with Thylacines? They are opportunistic carnivores like hyenas. They have the most powerful bite of all living animals relative to body size.
