As a young woman in this society, I have been through my fair share of body image issues. I’m too fat. I’m too skinny. My thighs touch. My stomach isn’t flat. My muscles are weak. My legs aren’t toned. It goes on and on.
.
The reality of it is that weight loss is generally 75% diet and 25% exercise. So, that being said...exercise because it will make you happy or help you get through a stressful day or because you will enjoy it.
.
Once you make exercise a chore, you will not want to do it and it will actually stress you out more.
.
If you have a lousy relationship with yourself, one day at the gym won’t help you with that. Learn to do things that make you happy. Don’t go to that spin class because you want to burn 500 calories that you consumed for lunch- go to the spin class because you enjoy it.
.
Exercise is shown to reduce stress levels, help with relaxation and sleep, increase you energy levels, help reduce the risk of chronic disease, help manage blood sugars and insulin levels, help your brain with thinking, learning, and judgement, it can help your mental health and SO MUCH MORE. So don’t just exercise to burn calories.

runfasteatslow Huma gel delivery day💃🏻 Fruit purée, Chia seeds, brown rice syrup, and sea salt.🥝🍓🍌🍚 I try and stay away from processed food and added sugars in my every day diet. Why should my running fuel be any different?? Huma fuels me up and replaces the electrolytes that I’ve lost through sweat. My favorite flavors have caffeine too😉

The reality of it is that weight loss is generally 75% diet and 25% exercise. So, that being said...exercise because it will make you happy or help you get through a stressful day or because you will enjoy it.

Once you make exercise a chore, you will not want to do it and it will actually stress you out more.

If you have a lousy relationship with yourself, one day at the gym won’t help you with that. Learn to do things that make you happy. Don’t go to that spin class because you want to burn 500 calories that you consumed for lunch- go to the spin class because you enjoy it.

Exercise is shown to reduce stress levels, help with relaxation and sleep, increase you energy levels, help reduce the risk of chronic disease, help manage blood sugars and insulin levels, help your brain with thinking, learning, and judgement, it can help your mental health and SO MUCH MORE. So don’t just exercise to burn calories.

For the veggies... Slice up some bell pepper, yellow onion, broccoli, snap peas, and sweet potatoes. Toss in sesame oil and sea salt. Roast in a 450 degree for 60ish minutes. For the tofu... cube and marinate in garlic, lime, peanut butter, sriracha, ginger, soy sauce, and whatever else sounds good (cilantro, rice vinegar,  whatever floats your boat). Roast for 20ish minutes (preferably while the veggies are finishing... efficiency is key here). If you like things saucy, make sure to reserve some of the marinade for serving. If you like things meaty, sub chicken for tofu.

In this meal alone I’ve got: quinoa, cucumber, tomato, onion, olives, chickpeas, kale, carrots, hemp seeds & pumpkin seeds (plus small amounts of sesame & shallots in the salad dressing). Other plants I ate today: oats, almonds, blueberries, peanuts, figs, avocado & potatoes. I definitely don’t always eat such a big variety every day, but I always feel so much more energized when I do! #eatalltheplants

runfasteatslow Why not make tonight noodle night? It’s race week! Time to up the carbs with my fav #betterthantakeout cold sesame noodles. So delicious. I am going to add some steamed broccoli as well. Ingredients:

4 tbsp sesame seeds

1 tsp brown sugar

2 tsp tamari (or soy sauce)

2 tbsp water 
1 tbsp rice vinegar 
2 heaping tbsp of peanut butter

Directions:

Dry-roast the sesame seeds in a frying pan over moderate heat until they are golden brown.

Crush the seeds into a paste with a mortar and pestle. 
Combine the paste with the remaining ingredients and mix well.  Make sure the sugar is dissolved.

Pour over cooked and cooled rice noodles.

Top with sliced green onions and veggies like cucumbers, sliced carrots or raw sliced summer squash.

Serve with cilantro on top and a sprinkling of red pepper flakes

Reprise aujourd’hui, il est temps de remettre la tête dans le guidon et de se reconcentrer niveau boulot et rythme de vie dans le cadre de la préparation des objectifs de cet automne.🤗 Le petit rituel de rentrée « feel good 🥰» et qui me fait démarrer la semaine du bon pied c’est l’écriture du menu de la semaine. Je prends ce petit temps chaque weekend, pas plus de 20 min, pour déterminer ce que je vais manger au moins du lundi au vendredi et ça me libère l’esprit.  Ca m’enlève le poids de la décision et de la sempiternelle question chaque soir « Qu’est ce qu’on mange ce soir » et « qu’est ce que je vais m’emmener à manger demain midi ». On fait les courses en conséquence, moins d’achats inutiles et compulsifs (en théorie... même si parfois on se lâche😅) Idéalement j’essaie de faire coïncider au mieux ce que je prévois de manger avec mes différents entrainements de la semaine pour optimiser au mieux mon énergie en fonction de ce dont mon corps a besoin mais c’est purement intuitif pour le moment... 😉  Et comme on sent le climat se rafraîchir à Bruxelles, ce soir c’est Tom Yum Noodle Soup, qui sert également de comfort food en ce lundi soir, avec un petit milk-shake bananes /fruits rouges pour garder un pied dans l’été ☺️ #foodlovers #mealprep #healthyfood #entraînenementinvisble #readyfortheweek #marathonbrugge #mondaynight #runfasteatslow #runfastcookfasteatslow #cookingtips #menuoftheweek #cookinginspiration #sportfood #sportfuel #runnersfood

Do you try different foods? . . Kelley and I aren’t sponsored and don’t promote any ads! So this post is just my opinion! . . Every once in a while I do an order from @blueapron. It gives me an opportunity to try things I might not normally cook on my own. It also helps if I am too busy to shop or I’m uninspired in the kitchen! . . Last night I made Cajun Shrimp and Corn Pancakes! It was so fresh and delicious and not something I would get the ingredients myself to make. It was also pretty easy to prepare and it tasted SO GOOD! . . I am happy to do @blueapron this week because it looks like a super busy week and it’s helpful to have all the ingredients I need and I know that I am going to have an amazing dinner a few nights this week! . . How do you prepare for a busy week??

runfasteatslow One aspect of marathon training I always struggle with is the diet. It’s just as important as the physical training, and yet I’m always unsure if I’m properly fueling. Carbs make me go 😍 and 😱 because they’re satisfying but bloating.  When covering long distances and high mileage weeks though they’re extremely necessary. Enter the cookbook that has changed the way I view food: Run Fast. Eat Slow. It not only helped me accept the fact carbs are important, but that it’s just fine to eat them without feeling guilty. James gets frustrated with my training, and rightfully so. He picks up a lot of slack when I’m out doing my training runs. But, one way (among many other ways) he supports me is by trying out almost every recipe from the book.  We read the book together and decide which recipes to try for the week. We spend our Sunday nights baking treats for the week including Giddy-Up Energy Bites and now these - Lemon Chia Seed Blueberry #superheromuffins. It’s just another way running brings us closer together, even though he doesn’t even run with me. But, he has signed up for the 4 mile @kczoorun, so I’ll make a believer out of him soon. 😈 #runfasteatslow #irunkc #kcmarathontraining

runfasteatslow R U N N I N G ~ Back from an amazing week in Europe and ~almost~ fully time zone adjusted. Running everyday on vacation wasn’t easy, but it certainly made today’s 10-miler a hell of a lot easier. In fact, it felt so good I could have gone longer... but with no rest days this week and a half marathon simulation this weekend, I’m trying to keep my mileage in check. Now I’m wondering... would anyone be interested in a post on training/staying healthy on vacation? Let me know 👍🏼

Lately, I've been having more 'bad' runs than good runs and I'm not sure why. I ran this same course last weekend as a training run much faster than last night.

I think sometimes I put too much pressure on myself and because of that I've been losing the joy of running.

So, I'm taking a step back and I'm going to refocus on why I run and run for fun instead of always feeling the need to PR.
