My rules, short and sweet (pun intended!) no added sugar and no processed foods that contain sugar. Fruit? YES, please! That’s still in.

So, I started today (pic from yesterday). Here are just a few reasons I want to shake sugar:
1/Cancer risk-the more sugar we eat the higher our risk of certain cancers.
2/Skin Aging-eating sugar accelerates the aging process. The white stuff damages collagen & elastin causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. Sad!
3/Increases cellular aging- at the end of our chromosomes we all have something called telomeres. The longer they are, the better. With natural aging, they shorten. But sugar causes them to shorten at an even faster pace. This in turn causes our cells to age and malfunction.

This last one fascinates me—so much so that I’ll be having my telomeres tested! Yeah, we can do that!!

Gestern gab es diesen leckeren Kartoffelgratin zum Mittagessen. Einfach zu machen und schmeckt gut. Was will man mehr? 
Ach ja. Veganen Tzaziki und Gurken kann ich dazu sehr empfehlen 🤗

• 6-7 Kartoffeln
• Sahne bzw. pflanzliche Alternative
• Knäckebrot
•Gewürze (Salz, Pfeffer, Kräutersalz & Muskat)

Die Kartoffeln schälen und in dünne Scheiben schneiden. In einer Auflaufform schichten und mit Sahne übergießen. Das Ganze gut würzen und oben drüber Knäckebrot-Streusel streuen. Macht eine tolle Kruste 😍

quittingsugar I’m not gonna lie, these past few days in California have been pretty great.
Not only has it been nice to escape the freezing weather (sorry to everyone back home 🤷‍♀️) and have a little time away with @mathersjohn, but it’s been so nice to have some uninterrupted time away to work on my new program. 
I have been working on this new program on and off behind the scenes for months now, so it’s been amazing to be able to sit down and really finalize all of the nitty gritty details. I want to make sure that this new program all about sugar and carbs and cravings really gives people the answers they want and the tools they need to make changes that will last. Creating recipes (like this Harvest Breakfast Hash) for programs is always fun but, for me, the files, charts, videos and tutorials are where I love pouring my heart and giving my blood, sweat and tears, because I know that these contain the real information that people need.

quittingsugar My head was filled with self doubt, anxiety and I straight up felt weak driving up to this run bc I attempted this 2 days ago and couldn’t get my legs to move. But today was different. After a cry, a call to my mom and a handful of supplements, I set my mind on my goal and I killed it! My official half marathon is in 2 weeks. But I wanted to prove to myself I could do this thing. The moments when we doubt ourselves the most tend to happen right before we grow the most. #dontstop #keepgoing

Yesterday I went to swimming in the sea 🌊 wow it was so refreshing! But blimey it’s cold! It was like I was in a ice bath!! Still felt amazing so I’m gonna go back again today. Anyway, after swimming I had skin rash around my neck. A lot. It was so itchy. .

When I was young, I skipped swimming class because of that rash. (I had a letter from doctor) The rash shows up when the temperature changes a lot (from hot weather into cold icy water) apparently it’s called Cold Urticaria. Anyway I haven’t had it like yesterday for long time. My body was screaming for help. I believe that it showed up because of my poor diet. .

When I eat lots of sugar or wheat products I have runny nose all day. I have been suffering from some kind of infection around my eyes, nose, and throat for very long time. It’s time to really look after my body. I’m such a hypocrite. I say nice things on social but not actually doing it... I need #judgementdetox too 😭

Go back to my decision. I decided quitting sugar and wheat products because when I did Candida diet few years back I felt much better and no runny nose, itchy eyes nor sore throat. I AM QUITTING SUGAR. . . Yes I said it. I am quitting sugar, I don’t know how long but until I feel better. It could be rest of my life!? . . Yesterday I went to swimming in the sea 🌊 wow it was so refreshing! But blimey it’s cold! It was like I was in a ice bath!! Still felt amazing so I’m gonna go back again today. Anyway, after swimming I had skin rash around my neck. A lot. It was so itchy. . . When I was young, I skipped swimming class because of that rash. (I had a letter from doctor) The rash shows up when the temperature changes a lot (from hot weather into cold icy water) apparently it’s called Cold Urticaria. Anyway I haven’t had it like yesterday for long time. My body was screaming for help. I believe that it showed up because of my poor diet. . . When I eat lots of sugar or wheat products I have runny nose all day. I have been suffering from some kind of infection around my eyes, nose, and throat for very long time. It’s time to really look after my body. I’m such a hypocrite. I say nice things on social but not actually doing it... I need #judgementdetox too 😭 . . Go back to my decision. I decided quitting sugar and wheat products because when I did Candida diet few years back I felt much better and no runny nose, itchy eyes nor sore throat. So, on week 7 it’s very tempting to relax and easy to laps with ‘sort of healthy” foods, like strawberries or dry fruits. Instead of blaming yourself ☀️
I had lots of lapses during my holiday time in Russia. I decided to “chillax” about it, as I ate raspberries straight from my parents garden, but I didn’t eat cakes or muffins. It was easy to get into a blank state by loading up with lots of veg. Honestly, cucumber and tomato taste so different and so delicious in Russia. And a simple salad with them, added parsley, drizzled with unraffinated sunflower oil is a real delight. For some reason, even organic cucumber and tomato don’t taste the same in UK. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
What to do to fix those lapses: ⭐ Pause and take a note during or after the laps. ⭐Move on from it by making some moves like walk, swim, yoga etc. ⭐ Eat some seriously nutritious food - protein, fats, and vegetables only. Go for real farm food - grown on fresh air. ⭐Next day make sure you don’t touch any sugar (no fruits) or stimulants like tea/coffee. ⭐ Most importantly - don’t punish yourself. When we get too harsh to ourselves we tend to go back into that crave-reward cycle again. Studies shown that when people acknowledge and forgive themselves for a bad food choice - they are better to resist it next time.

I ran this after only getting 3 hrs of sleep last night due to a late night and early morning and crying babies. But I made a promise to myself and I kept it. I didn’t allow myself to even think about this run as I got ready for it this morning. I just did what I usually do: taped up my ankles and knee, took my supplements and drove myself up the canyon.

Habits and routine can be terrible things when they are bad for you. Half of my eating problem is simply because of my daily routine while I'm on the road. Forcing myself to stop somewhere else and remove the temptation all together literally gives me some anxiety in the moment until the moment has passed. Do what you can to brake those bad routines... It gets easier, but be ready to push against the resistance. Change is always accompanied by resistance.

Stuffed mushrooms (adapted from the Deliciously Ella original cookbook). I add spinach leaves and passatta.

With grated and slowly stir fried veg, kinda a veggie bubble n squeek or cauliflower rice with other stuff if you're a hipster.

Snacks

Salted popcorn, cocoa with unsweetened almond milk and chilli powder.

quittingsugar 201.2lbs, I’d been shooting for 200, but fell short. 8lbs in 2 weeks though is still a good pace. I guess I just have to learn that just because everyone else wants to eat out doesn’t mean I have to go with, and that even if I do I can simply make the choice to eat less. I didn’t do that, I did ok, but not good enough to meet my weekly goal. I will work harder to make it happen this week.

My successes last week:
Still managed to lose 4lbs
Stayed away from soda/caffeine(minus having a little of my girlfriends fountain drink at a movie)
Stayed away from chocolate/dessert(minus a small sample of toffee)

Stayed vegetarian(though I did sample the Bolognese I made for my girlfriend and her mother, but I didn’t have it as a meal). Exercised 5 days out of 7, and that 6th we spent walking around Dallas in the hot sun.

Failures:
Had that half soda
Sampled that toffee
Overtrained Friday which led to taking Saturday off
Ate out a couple times(made good choices at one place and ordered more than I should have at the other)

So, I started today (pic from yesterday). Here are just a few reasons I want to shake sugar:
1/Cancer risk-the more sugar we eat the higher our risk of certain cancers.
2/Skin Aging-eating sugar accelerates the aging process. The white stuff damages collagen & elastin causing the skin to wrinkle and sag. Sad!
3/Increases cellular aging- at the end of our chromosomes we all have something called telomeres. The longer they are, the better. With natural aging, they shorten. But sugar causes them to shorten at an even faster pace. This in turn causes our cells to age and malfunction.

This last one fascinates me—so much so that I’ll be having my telomeres tested! Yeah, we can do that!!

Hi I want to share my current win. I've been struggling with my "addiction" to comfort. I usually seek comfortable situations and activities. I very easily fall into lazy routines of staying in my bed for an hour after waking up, mostly on Insta (there are real inspiring people on here, and I love to catch up on their content, but then after that's up, I stay on and procrastinate for way too long), and binging on Netflix or YouTube and snacks at night. And staying up too late. I never saw myself ever going to the gym, or working out, because I knew it would be hard, sweaty and uncomfortable before getting to a good place. It took me 5 years to transition to veganism. Because I needed to take responsibility for my daily choices and make extra efforts around other people. But alright, this isn't a show about all my challenges and bad habits. I wanted to share how proud I am of myself. Because I just realized I AM making efforts, and I AM putting myself out of my comfort zone. More than I gave myself credit for. I am being active. I've been going to the gym (not regularly, and not as often as I said I would, but still) this winter and spring. Now that it's warmer and the snow has melted, I go for runs (working up to an actual full run, for now it's a combination of walking and running) at least once a week and I go on more walks than ever before. I am trying to quit sugar, for my health. I'm mindlessly eating way too much added sugar and my Higher self has been telling me to slack off it. Me. Being active for fun. Quitting sugar. I kid you not. I'm thankful for the guidance I'm receiving. And I'm so grateful for this realization I just had. I'm feeling a lot better about myself for doing the same things I was already doing. It's really great. Trying to get back on track after vacation and all that buffet food (missing the convenience though 😜), alcohol and sugar. The easiest way for me to do so is to eat lots of greens, veggies, healthy fats and protein. Hope to get rid of those sugar cravings quickly. 🔼French-Toast🔼 ▫️ Heute gab es French Toast bzw. "French Sauerteigbrot" 😂 zum Frühstück. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich es ausprobiert habe. Heute mal nicht in vegan, da wir gestern auf dem Land unterwegs waren und dort Eier beim Bauern direkt gekauft haben. Wobei ich finde, man braucht nicht unbedingt ein Ei. Würde auch mit einer zermatschten Banane oder so sehr gut schmecken! 😄 Übrigens habe ich mir gestern Schwefelsalz (Kala Namak) gekauft. Jetzt kann ich auch Eiergerichte ohne Ei zaubern. Freu mich darauf, Neues auszuprobieren! 😍 ▫️ • 1 Ei • etwas Hafermilch • Zimt ▫️ Alles verrühren und das Brot/Toast drin wenden und schön vollsaugen lassen. Dann in einer Pfanne mit Kokosöl oder anderem Öl ausbraten. quittingsugar Eating out or with friends can be difficult at times if you don't eat sugar or carbohydrates. When eating out, you can occasionally find a lowcarb salad, tapas or go for a bunless burger option if you're lucky! Quitting sugar also means saying no to that slice of birthday cake at your friend's party, and being the only person not buying popcorn at the cinema. It can be a bummer! Eating with family and friends is a big part of many people's social lives and these issues prevent many of them from quitting sugar. But there are some things I do to help me manage:
-  Let people know why I've quit sugar so they don't feel offended when I don't eat some food they might offer me
- When going out for food, I suggest restaurants that I know have lowcarb options
- Ask for slight modifications to my dishes to avoid carbs at restaurants
- Bring my own lunch to work
- Bring my own snacks when travelling
- Buy nuts at the cinema instead of popcorn

As an example, last night I had dinner at my friends' place and they very thoughtfully prepared delicious lowcarb skewers because they were aware of my dietary choices! I also brought a lowcarb dessert (fruit salad) as my contribution to the dinner party. Be creative with your approach to eating #SugarFree ! 😊 What are your tricks and methods?

When eating out, you can occasionally find a lowcarb salad, tapas or go for a bunless burger option if you're lucky! Quitting sugar also means saying no to that slice of birthday cake at your friend's party, and being the only person not buying popcorn at the cinema. It can be a bummer! Eating with family and friends is a big part of many people's social lives and these issues prevent many of them from quitting sugar. But there are some things I do to help me manage: - Let people know why I've quit sugar so they don't feel offended when I don't eat some food they might offer me - When going out for food, I suggest restaurants that I know have lowcarb options - Ask for slight modifications to my dishes to avoid carbs at restaurants - Bring my own lunch to work - Bring my own snacks when travelling - Buy nuts at the cinema instead of popcorn As an example, last night I had dinner at my friends' place and they very thoughtfully prepared delicious lowcarb skewers because they were aware of my dietary choices! I also brought a lowcarb dessert (fruit salad) as my contribution to the dinner party. quittingsugar Used leftovers from last night for this mornings breakfast. Topped my sweet potatoes, sausage, and spinach with an egg- (we ate all the asparagus 👍🏻) and added berries on the side. 
I've always had a huge sweet tooth, and thought people who snacked on fruit were crazy. 😜 Fruit wasn't ever sweet enough for me-until I cut back on processed sugar. Shocker! Now I'm one of those crazy people. 😉
👏🏻 Today is also the start of #bbgweek2 for me! I'll be doing Monday's Leg workout this evening. Looks like a killer. 😅
