I have to say, though, eating clean is worth it. Every day, it’s worth it. I am not perfect in what I eat, but I do work hard most of the time, to stay on track.  No longer do I suffer from digestion issues, yo-yo dieting, dehydration, brain fog, and so many more ailments. When you eat well, you open the door to living your best life. Road trip. Today’s the day I have to take my oldest back to his summer internship😢. It’s been so nice having him home for the weekend. mysimplyfitlifestyle The last 2 weeks have been life changing. Besides the typical end of the year report cards, slide show creation and other random chaos, I had to pack up an entire kindergarten classroom to move to a new room.  My daughter got her drivers license and my youngest is now a high schooler. Also the big one. My oldest graduated from HS and moved to Ohio for an internship before college. .

While I am excited for all 3 of the kids and the future that lies before them, I am also trying to navigate through the extreme changes. .

My mom, Brooke, her bff and I drove north in the rain and cold to regroup for a few days. Despite the 60 degree temps and wind and rain, we managed to relax, breathe and reconnect. While there was no beach for us- we toured, we shopped, we ate well.  Most important, we laughed. Lots. A few days away will take you back to what’s important and will help you focus on the best life. .

As we return to “normalcy”, I feel lighter. While I miss my oldest so much and our house feels way different, I know we are on Gods Path.  This path will lead to all the good.  Thanks to the girls and my mom for these last few days ❤️

I decided to listen to what my body was needing and just made that hot food. To my kids’ disappointment, I did not break the cleanse with a large pizza or a bag of Doritos 😂. Instead, I made whole food nourishment. It felt so good and I cherished every bite. .

I am so glad I am healthy enough to have done this cleanse. I will do it again over the summer.  My next one, though, will be the 3-6-9 Liver Rescue.  I’m hoping to get my teenage daughter on board for that one in July ❤️ .

So yesterday my 28 Day Raw Food Cleanse ended. It was a few days early. 🤷‍♀️The last couple of days, i was struggling with not feeling full. All I was thinking about was eating hot food. My dreams have been super clear. Especially last night. I dreamed about my little brother in heaven. We were having a full on conversation. We were laughing. Normally when I wake up I cannot recall my dreams. Not these past few nights. Everything is so vivid. I wake up and can recall so much!! Tomorrow, when I wake, I’m going to start journaling. .

It’s unreal to me that the way we eat has such an impact on so many things.  Nutrition plays a vital role in our lives. I struggle with eating just raw food, but wow am I grateful to be able to do it!

Here’s what’s currently happening:
1. Acne 😬
2. Sore throat - like I’m trying to get a cold but can’t . 
3. Itchy skin
4. Tired legs .
.
I know all of these symptoms are signs that my body is repairing and cleansing. .
Here are the glimmers:
1. My eyes are brighter
2. I’m feeling little surges of energy throughout the day
3. Under eye dark circles are lightening

This detoxing is definitely not easy, but I love it!  I love taking a break from cooked food. I love the challenge and the patience/excitement for what’s to come.

mysimplyfitlifestyle Well here I am over here doing abs. I NEVER do abs!  What’s gotten into me?? Well there is a little bit of a change....I am doing a 28 DAY Cleanse. That is, RAW Food (fruits and vegetables) ONLY for 28 days. I’m on Day 6. .

Why am I doing this?  Digestion takes a lot of body power. Cooked food requires so much energy to digest. I want to give my organs and cells a break. Time that is normally spent on digestion, can be freed up to cleanse toxins, repair tissue damage, rejuvenate cells and so much more. .

I have noticed, in the last couple of days, that my energy is really great. Even in a super early workout this morning, I had the energy at the end to grab the mat and do crunches. .

I’m excited to see what other changes may occur in the next couple of weeks. Eating just fruits and vegetables is way easier than I thought. It’s refreshing to be able to choose so many delicious treats. .

Well here I am over here doing abs. I NEVER do abs! What’s gotten into me?? Well there is a little bit of a change....I am doing a 28 DAY Cleanse. That is, RAW Food (fruits and vegetables) ONLY for 28 days. I’m on Day 6. . . Why am I doing this? Digestion takes a lot of body power. Cooked food requires so much energy to digest. I want to give my organs and cells a break. Time that is normally spent on digestion, can be freed up to cleanse toxins, repair tissue damage, rejuvenate cells and so much more. . . I have noticed, in the last couple of days, that my energy is really great. Even in a super early workout this morning, I had the energy at the end to grab the mat and do crunches. . . I’m excited to see what other changes may occur in the next couple of weeks. Eating just fruits and vegetables is way easier than I thought. It’s refreshing to be able to choose so many delicious treats. . 🍏🍅🍇🍊🍈🥦🍋🍒🥬🥒🍑🥝🍉🍌🥕🌶🍎🍐

We want to go, but know most places are filled with choices that are tempting 😬  We go to celebrate an occasion, escape from work for a bit, or we go to unwind with someone special. I do not want to miss these opportunities with those I love ❤️ .

I don’t judge anyone that needs to opt out of restaurants. Maybe that person is healing from a chronic illness. Maybe that person is trying to avoid the NO foods or is unable to make it work for them. All understandable. You have to do what is best for you. .

Because I choose to eat out, I do things a little different- which may get me kicked out of one of these restaurants soon (sorry work friends!). I often bring my own brown rice or even some salad or dressing. I will buy something and mix them. Yesterday We went to Panda- I brought rice and mixed their super greens with it. If I don’t bring anything, a couple omissions from a salad (cheese, dressing, meat) can help. .

Being prepared, eating some before I go, and sticking to my lifestyle 90% of the time are my rules of thumb. .

For those who don’t know my story, I’m going to share a few pieces in hopes that it will help someone else. If you are still “unpeeling the layers”, know you are not alone. So are we. It takes time. It takes patience. 
It started when my 12 year old daughter became very sick. We began doctor after doctor, test after test with so many question marks. “Autoimmune” was the word everyone liked to throw around. That was not good enough- this is my daughter and I wanted black and white answers. She was not getting better and no medicine (we tried every medication you can imagine) was working. 
Any mom in my position would do the same- I lived on like 2-3 hours of sleep as I researched through the night. Meanwhile, Trying to hold down a full time job and be available for my other 2 boys. I never realized the exhaustion and stress I was experiencing. 
After months of no answers, we ended up at a functional medicine doctors office. We had tried EVERYTHING, this was it.  After some very expensive labs, he suggested many nutritional changes. Cut dairy, gluten, nuts, and many others- all the things she was highly sensitive to. We did and, very slowly, my daughter started to come back. I knew this was the ticket. We began some key supplements and more improvements . Very very slowly.  The layers of her illness were being peeled open. We were realizing we could get to the layers quicker with good nutrition. 
About that time, I realized my health had become poor. Anxiety and poor nutrition had gotten the better of me. I decided her and I were in this together and we began to eat the same. 
It has been a journey. A true roller coaster.  She is now 16 and it has not been easy. She is not completely healed. I have become engrossed with nutrition and fitness. Her- not so much. She’s a strong teenager that has, lately, not cared as much about her diet. Some symptoms linger. That’s ok for now. She will come around. 
I am so grateful to have found this lifestyle and I will never look back. I have seen first hand the impact that nutrition has on our lives. Food is truly our best medicine.

However.....in MY journey, it was too much!  I drank almost a whole pot a day for lots of years 😳. I admire all the people who can have one cup in the morning and end it there. I can not. .

It has not been pretty- there are many mornings I struggle. Many times I want to cave and drive thru Starbucks. During these challenges, I think of my adrenals healing and remember how strong I am. I pour some herbal tea and DEAL. It is truly amazing how determined we can be with some work. .

Eat before you go- yes, I said that!  Search on the “sides” portion of the menu and build your plate. Bring your own little cup of salad dressing. Ask for no oils - you can blame an allergy if you need to. Don’t beat yourself up over a little bit of something. Pick things out that you don’t care for—the above salad I picked out the cheese and corn. .

When you take the focus off of the food and put it on the friends/family that you are with, eating out is not that big of a deal. Enjoy your loved ones and make those memories! .

I couldn’t limit myself with just one morning cup- and that was wreaking havoc on my adrenals. .

So yesterday was nasty here in Michigan. 🌨💨❄️ Cold, rainy, gloomy. For the first time in a few weeks, I could not get the thought of coffee out of my brain. Finally last night I broke down. I figured just a small cup of decaf.  After much debate, I ended up with a grande DECAF flat white made with almond milk. .

The first few sips were incredible. That rush of hot. That smell. The warmth on my hands. When I got to about the halfway mark, something changed. It kind of started to taste funny and I just didn’t want it that much. I was itchy to get home to have some plain water. Couldn’t believe that the biggest coffee addict ever was pouring out the coffee and filling up her water glass. 😳 .

Healing and recovery can happen. When it does, you change and do not want to go back. I do not want to go back to the highs and lows of caffeine addiction.  The frenzy. The crashes. Not for me anymore. If one day I can be good with a small morning cup, then maybe. Until then, I am filling up on celery juice, smoothies and water. 🌟🌟🌟 .

My thoughts:  It was a little difficult giving up my Ezekiel Toast, but I am loving this new way. In addition to the fruit you see (which I usually eat at snack time with my class), I also drink a smoothie 🥤 with wild blueberries, barley grass juice powder, cilantro, sea Dulse, spiralina, banana and orange.  Now that it’s been a couple weeks, I am loving my morning energy. I’ve been over a month with no coffee, so fruity mornings are a blessing. .

I just drank my heavy metal detox smoothie, which will hold me over until I get to school. Then I snack on fruit all morning. At lunch I will eat my brown rice and all the veggies. Whatever is left will be for an afternoon snack. Dinner will be a huge salad and maybe some baked potatoes. .

There is no “play it by ear” when you work full time and have 3 active teenagers. I prep as much as I can on Sunday so that we can all grab and go throughout the week. This lifestyle needs planning and strategy, but is not difficult. The rewards are substantial🌟and I am not sitting in a mile long line at McDonalds! .
