Hi guys Nero here doing my bit to spread awareness about canine cancer.
As it’s summer in 🇬🇧 and a heatwave hitting east coast 🇺🇸 thought I’d highlight Melanoma (skin, digit and oral malignant melanoma cancer). It’s a common tumour in dogs.
It occurs on the skin or inside the mouth.
Did you know that it’s NOT considered to be caused by☀️ exposure for dogs?
It’s common in purebreds: Doberman Pinschers; Miniature Schnauzers, & Miniature Poodles. Oral melanoma is more likely to occur in Poodles; Dachshunds, Scottish Terriers, Cocker Spaniels and Retrievers. Chow Chows tend to get more 👅 melanomas.
Signs: * tumours - can look inflamed or ulcerated
* bad breath
* excessive drooling * difficulty in eating/ swallowing * pain when eating * pawing at the mouth
* bloody/bleeding saliva
* loss of teeth
* facial swelling/ deformity
* weight loss
* Your dogs mouth
* A full body checkup
If you are worried by what you find, ask your vet to do a biopsy . A CT scan may be beneficial as is typical blood & urine sample.
