mentalhealth Happy Friday, everyone!🧡 I can find myself a little bit lost sometimes, especially when I overthink my existence.🤷🏻‍♀️ Being partially an existentialist I often find asking myself a question: why am I doing this for, why does it matter, etc.🙇🏻‍♀️ Over the years I’ve learnt that oftentimes overthinking can paralyze you and make you depressed, because even though our brain is very well developed, some questions are probably never to be answered. 
Having a purpose in life is important and I read that people, who have it, live longer, but don’t think that everyone knows some deep meaning to their lives. Some people found a meaning that makes sense to them only, some are still figuring it out, and others just exist.😀 Overall there’s definitely no point to overthink. So the days when I don’t know why I live, I choose to simply breathe and instead of thinking about it too much, I prefer to stay busy doing something simple, the meaning will come, I’m sure. 📸 by @kristina_r.ph

Rhett was 3 months old, and I was finally starting to feel a little more myself those days. I bought that shirt because it felt flattering and forgiving on my postpartum curves. I was constantly searching for long and loose tunics and sweaters to conceal myself, and hide that mom bod.

Well a LOT has changed since then! I found that same shirt in my closet and thought I'd do a little comparison today... I'm shocked at the difference! 🤯 I look younger, happier, and a whole lot healthier!

I just wanted to encourage y'all.... it might take time, and you will no doubt struggle along the way, but it is SO worth it! I'm a new person, on the outside and inside. When you take care of your physical health, your mental health follows suit. ALL aspects of your life improve. And you can do it, too! If you want it, don't stop at anything to make it happen. No excuses!

If you're working at it, keep it up! You WILL get there. If you're lost on where to even begin, let me help. I commit to 30 minutes for myself every day. That's all it takes! mentalhealth My perfectionism has gotten so much more intense this semester, FAR beyond a healthy limit, and it really did a number on me this week. I always find ways to justify and defend it to myself, saying that it makes me more successful. While that is true in an outward sense (such as practice cello almost obsessively and making really good grades and “overachieving”), this week really opened my eyes to how destructive it actually is and how much it’s depleted me. It can be healthy to be ambitious and dedicated, but if literally are breaking down and panicking and crying behind closed doors when you don’t meet your expectations, that is not healthy. And that’s exactly what has been happening to me. Brené Brown says that when perfectionism is driving the car, shame is riding shot gun, and fear is the backseat driver constantly interjecting. By her definition, perfectionism a is self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of blame, judgement, and shame. On Wednesday, I played my cello solo in front of the entire department of music and students. 90% of it was amazing. Full of emotion and one of the best times I had ever played it. But then came the climactic section of the movement, a part I had spent HOURS drilling until I could practically play it in my sleep, and for some reason I got thrown off and completely butchered the runs. It was maybe 10 measures max, and I recovered very well, but I felt crushed and humiliated. I didn’t let it show to the audience, but as soon as I got off stage I burst into tears. I went to my car and sobbed, and I cried on and off for the rest of the day. My professor texted me to tell me it was beautiful performance was and not to worry about those runs that I missed and that it was a way bigger deal to me than it came off to the audience, but I was still full of self blame and embarrassment. My perfectionism has gotten so much more intense this semester, FAR beyond a healthy limit, and it really did a number on me this week. I always find ways to justify and defend it to myself, saying that it makes me more successful. While that is true in an outward sense (such as practice cello almost obsessively and making really good grades and “overachieving”), this week really opened my eyes to how destructive it actually is and how much it’s depleted me. It can be healthy to be ambitious and dedicated, but if literally are breaking down and panicking and crying behind closed doors when you don’t meet your expectations, that is not healthy. And that’s exactly what has been happening to me. Brené Brown says that when perfectionism is driving the car, shame is riding shot gun, and fear is the backseat driver constantly interjecting. By her definition, perfectionism a is self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of blame, judgement, and shame. On Wednesday, I played my cello solo in front of the entire department of music and students. 90% of it was amazing. Full of emotion and one of the best times I had ever played it. But then came the climactic section of the movement, a part I had spent HOURS drilling until I could practically play it in my sleep, and for some reason I got thrown off and completely butchered the runs. It was maybe 10 measures max, and I recovered very well, but I felt crushed and humiliated. I didn’t let it show to the audience, but as soon as I got off stage I burst into tears. I went to my car and sobbed, and I cried on and off for the rest of the day. My professor texted me to tell me it was beautiful performance was and not to worry about those runs that I missed and that it was a way bigger deal to me than it came off to the audience, but I was still full of self blame and embarrassment. She needs to be checked on.

She needs to have her load lightened, not because she asks (she likely never will) but because she’s human.

She needs reminders to rest.
To slow down.
And to breathe.

She needs someone to see past how well she holds it all together and recognize how much she’s carrying.

She needs support.
Help with her to-do list.
More sleep.
And to learn how to say ‘no.’
She needs compassion & love, too.

She needs individuals who know that while she’s strong, she still struggles.

And she may need to be reminded that’s okay. It doesn’t make her weak.

She may be silently struggling with her relationship with food, her body, maybe its’ anxiety or depression... Remind her it’s okay.

mentalhealth exercise is a  c e l e b r a t i o n  for what your body can do, N O T a punishment.

i spent WAY to many years punishing myself in the gym for things i ate, what i drank, not working out hard enough, etc. to the point where i absolutely hated the gym. i hated health, fitness, and wellness, and i totally thought that exercise / movement was not for me.
.
but all along i really just had the wrong mindset. i wasn’t using the gym as a way to celebrate that i am able to move. i didn’t use the gym as a channel to get creative and come up with fun exercises. i didn’t use the gym to workout in a way that was fun for me. why? because deep down, i was only worried about “them.”
.
you see, the problem was never with the gym. the problem was ME and my $hitty mindset. i kept trying to be like other people when all along, i had the power to enjoy the gym just as much as others, by doing movement / exercises that were FUN for me, not a punishment what what i ate/what i drank or a ploy to try and be someone else.

i encourage you to find a workout, exercise, and/or movement routine that works for YOU. you’ll be surprised at how much you begin to like the gym when you stop focusing on “her” or “what you’re not,” and start focusing on all that you already are! and if you’re are anything like i used to be (described above) try to switch it up frequently! that’s one of the main reasons i have come to love the gym. some days i do HIIT, some days i sprint, some days i lift, some days i do functional training and some days i do a little bit of everything! it keeps it fun and exciting for me, which is how fitness should be. fitness is truly for everyone, we just need to start embracing all of the different aspects of it!🙏

mentalhealth We were at the park. Playing until bedtime to give my oldest a break from her siblings. Everything was fine. Until it wasn’t. A lightbulb thrown and shattered, shards used to cut her leg. Me pleading to not do this right now. And her unable to stop.

After getting Aaron safe. I loaded Sophie in the car. (Not an easy task when she’s like this) She wasn’t in a good place. Saying that she was going to hurt herself every day until Halloween. And then on Halloween she would stab herself dead. “I want to do it slowly so I can feel the pain slowly.” This was the first time she verbalized a plan. She’s usually impulsive but I guess she’d reached a new level.

We went up to my parents house, since she stated in her safety plan from the hospital, that that was a safe place for her. We cleaned her leg, bandaged it up and took a break. Everything was fine until it was time to go home. She was triggered again and we found her in the kitchen with two pairs of scissors instead of getting her coat. Threatening to use them against herself and trying to scare me into a chase. My mom and I tried to talk her down but it didn’t work. She fled from the house and as we followed she threw the scissors back to slow us down. Yelling that she was going to throw herself in traffic to get hit by a car. (My Mom lives near a VERY BUSY street.) She took off in that direction. We got in the car and tried to corner her, but that sent her though yards and around the neighborhood. Eventually up a tree. There she stayed. Trespassing at a random house. Breaking branches and causing a commotion. Shaking from the cold, I waited. And waited. And waited.

My Mom almost got her down twice. But even the smallest distraction sent her higher. The home owners were notified and I anxiously awaited their decision. Were they going to call the police? Would this damage my parents relationship with their neighbors? But I was greeted with the kindest most understanding woman. Another blessing in the midst of chaos.

It wasn’t until my Dad got a ladder and tried to get her down, that she complied. But even then I knew it wasn’t over.

To me that is heartbreaking 💔 We have more access and ways to reach people from around the globe, yet we sit isolated and lonely even in our partnerships, or with plenty of "friends". Some can count thousands of followers across their social media channels, yet find it difficult to get someone to hike with them, have tea, or arrange for a meeting or get together. . . If you are feeling this type of isolation, ask yourself these questions... Is social media helping to establish connections that are meaningful? Are you able to have deep and meaningful relationships that we all are wired for? Or, are we simply painting snapchated filtered pictures of things we want others to see, but not really present for them in the physical world? Do you allow yourself the time to pick up the phone and call someone, or is it a short text here and there? Are you making time for those you love by being there and present for them? . . There are simple things that you can do to stop this trend of isolation! . . Pick up the phone, schedule that lunch date, limit your screen time, start or join a group or club, facetime someone, invite a friend to lunch, send a thoughtful note. mentalhealth • Are you looking after your Mental Resilience? •

I like to think I can be a really positive person. But lately there’s been a lot going that’s really affected my ability to stay positive. Things that I’d usually be able to let slide were pushing me to the edge.

I kept saying I just need a holiday away and it will be okay. Going on holiday was the break away I really needed. And to some extent it was. I came home feeling refreshed, positive and ready to get going again. I generally felt good.

It really didn’t take long being home for that to disappear though. Being away was great but not a lot had changed back here and my mental resilience has really taken a hit.

So it’s time to get my positivity back and to do that I need to make some changes:

😴 I need to start to prioritise getting enough good quality sleep again. We typically need 7-9hrs to perform our best so working late and getting up ridiculously early is going to stop
-
💰Recognise that money isn’t everything and if doing something is making me unhappy then it needs to go. There’s no value that can be put on having time to do things that make me happy.
-
🙅🏼‍♀️ Stop letting the way people treat me get me down. Lately there’s been one too many occasions where I’ve felt worthless and undervalued by other people’s behaviour. If someone can’t value what I do, it’s time to stop believing that I am worth less and start removing negativity from my life.

💕 Make more time for the people I love and the hobbies I love. I’ve not been home near enough this year and sometimes the only thing to dig me out of a funk is my beautiful girl Roo. So more time is going to be back at home doing what I love.

Here’s hoping I can get back to a happy me soon ☺️ and thank you @mattpurnellpt for standing by me when I’ve wanted to shut the whole world out ❤️

There is no short answer but all I can say is you have to be willing to try new things & get comfortable being uncomfortable. You have listen & learn from everyone, even if you don’t like them! mentalhealth Be kind to one another. You never know what someone is going through regardless of how they appear on the outside. Sometimes being in peoples’ minds can be a scary place. Anxiety can look like the photo on the left or the right. It doesn’t always come with depression either. You can be an anxious person but still be happy! Anxiety is hard for loved ones and friends to understand if they don’t experience it. I am innately an anxious person from as early as I can remember. What that meant for me was basically just always being nervous and always worried. I got so good at “living nervously” that noone ever noticed. I was a cheerleader, a track and cross country runner, was involved in everything, on homecoming court and academically in the top of my class. Sure, I was known to be “shy”, but it was really just anxiety. Even when I would raise my hand in class to be called on willingly, once I was called on, Id freeze...Heart racing, sweating, fear-stricken as if it were life or death. As I got older it got worse. The pressure I put on myself in HS and then college was insane. Getting my Doctorate in physical therapy was 7 years of anxiety. Looking back on it now, it seems crazy bc those challenges were nothing compared to what my adulthood brought and who knows, may bring. Practicing mindfulness is a game-changer. It is not just an activity it is a lifestyle. It is a process that takes a lot of work. I have not mastered it but I am working on it, becoming less anxious with day to day tasks by taking control of my thoughts. My points are: be kind to others because you never know what mental barriers they are trying to knock down. We all could use help and support. If you have anxiety, you CAN overcome it.
