Happy #stacksaturday ! This stack on my desk is my latest #bookmail
What are your weekend plans? I think I’m going to paint my bathroom today. I started taping it up and chose a nice grey tone. My bathroom is really dated but paint will help. Eventually we’ll gut the room and redo it completely but that is years from now.
In the comments tell me a book you are excited about, your latest book purchase or your weekend plans!

I’m back from a great church book sale. Will show you my new books as soon as I have time to photograph them. I would love to volunteer in this book sale next year and am going to ask.
Have you ever had a books or culture related job? I used to work in an art gallery. It is the best job I have ever had.

#staffpicksunday When I hit you : or, a portrait of the writer as a young wife by Meena Kandasamy.
Seduced by politics and poetry, the unnamed narrator falls in love with a university professor and agrees to be his wife, but what for her is a contract of love is for him a contract of ownership. As he sets about reducing her to his idealised version of a kept woman, bullying her out of her life as an academic and writer in the process, she attempts to push back - a resistance he resolves to break with violence and rape. Smart, fierce and courageous When I Hit You is a dissection of what love meant, means and will come to mean when trust is undermined by violence; a brilliant, throat-tightening feminist discourse on battered faces and bruised male egos; and a scathing portrait of traditional wedlock in modern India.
You can find this and other staff picks on our shelves by looking for the gold sticker on the spine.

📚Biblioteca Piffetti, Palazzo del Quirinale, Roma. Library of Quirinale Palace, where lives the Italian President, in Rome.📚 📚Biblioteca del Piffetti - già a Villa della Regina, ora al Palazzo del Quirinale, Roma.
Pietro Piffetti's Library - once in Villa della Regina, today in the Quirinale Palace, Rome.
This splendid work of furniture was realized by Pietro Piffetti, a cabinet-maker who worked for the House of Savoy. The boiserie, shelves and all other items are made of different woods - like rosewood, olive wood, boxwood, yew - inlaid with ivory. The work was achieved in the first half of the 18th century for the Villa della Regina; it was later carried to Rome (1879) and reassembled in the Quirinale, the new royal palace of the Savoys after the unification of Italy.📚
Full afternoon discovering the #torontoreferencelibrary.
From books to retail to coffee and exhibitions...some of my favourite things all under one roof. Five floors and lost all sense of time. This was a very fun view today.
The library is home to the Arthur Conan Doy collection, which not only has Sherlock Holmes, but many, many works by this author. A very unique section of the library.
The Friends of the Toronto Public Library book sale is on this weekend. There is also the permanent retail space Book Ends...needless to say I have added to my summer reading. I found a couple #retail related books too. Always have the business on my mind.
The main floor also has the TD Gallery space, @balzacscoffee and the @tcafshop. #library spaces sure have changed since I was...well...younger.
This was such a fun and unexpected experience. A must see for your next #Toronto trip.
