After my last journey from Dresden to Wellington I cycled over 21.000 kilometers and I know the meaning of numbers. Back then, I celebrated every thousands like milestones for myself. 1000, 2000, 3000...
If you look carefully you can find so much behind these numbers! A lot of sweat, dust, coldness, heat, exhaustion, fears, headwinds, thirst, boredom, climbs, despair and loneliness. But there is also pride, satisfaction, ambition, happiness, patience, strength, confidence, trust and love.
Everything merges into a number - a magical number only for yourself. Cause no one but you understands the real meaning. Many people just see the distance and not all the emotions behind it. So if you want to know how 5000 kilometers feel like - just get on a bike and find out... 😄
I’ve met cyclists in such a rush to get to their destination they never look up, one guy in Northern Argentina told us he only ever stopped to pee. For me it’s more about the journey, the experience and immersing yourself into the environment, that’s what makes cycling unique. It’s important to take time to take it all in. In Bolivia there’s no better way to do that than sitting down to enjoy a cup of coca leaf tea while considering what may lie beyond the horizon (in this case the Atacama & Chile ;) #bikepacking#bikepackinglife #gravelgrinder#kogamiyata#alpkit#msrwhisperlite#bolivia
