Mensho San Francisco; Shinjuku, Tokyo 🍜🍜🍜
So a while back I did a YouTube video collaboration with @thefoodranger and since then I have gotten a number of people booking my Airbnb tour. A lot of the times they request I take them to the restaurants featured in the video such as the A5 wagyu ramen from Mensho San Francisco. While the guests will tend to order the Wagyu Ramen (as seen eaten by @thefoodranger), I'm quite fond of their Chicken Paitan ramen as well. Don't get me wrong, the A5 wagyu ramen is as decadent as you saw it on the video, but it's pretty difficult to get a toripaitan down and Mensho San Francisco does a pretty damn good job of it. You can just tell from the photo how incredibly pure and creamy it is. The soup is so white the it practically blends in to the whites of the bowl. Broth is obviously chicken, but it's actually a lot more subtle than I would have expected from a Paitan. If you're not aware, Paitan is a long simmer of chicken bones, almost to the point of liquifying, and has a rich, creamy flavor profile. The one here at Mensho San Francisco leans more towards a chintan in flavor, but definitely has the thickness you'd expect from the style. The pork belly char siu was charbroiled to perfection and the different spices as toppings gave the bowl a unique twist. While not as glamorous and impactful as the A5 wagyu ramen, I definitely recommend a bowl of the Paitan here as well.

Founded over 1,350 years ago, Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社, Yasaka Jinja), also known as Gion Shrine, is one of the most famous shrines in Kyoto. We took some photos as we walked through the Shrine this morning.
