Queen Tamar of Georgia (c. 1160-1213), depicted in an early 13th century fresco (left) and a 1913 illustration from Letopis' Gruzii (right). I've include both modern and contemporary imagery to give you a sense of her influence and idealization across centuries.
During her life, she needed to legitimize her reign for the nobles who would not accept a female ruler. Her father knew that some would reject her on account of being Georgia's first female sovereign so he made her his co-ruler until his death. This eased her into the role, but she was still forced to fight for her reign. Tamar was able to build on the success of her predecessors and is still considered to have presided over the height of Georgia's Golden Age.
For an example of her contemporary influence, consider how she is identified on coins and charters: "By the will of God, King of Kings and Queen of Queens... Autocrat of all the East and West, Glory of the World and Faith, Champion of the Messiah." Queen Tamar is still relevant in modern times, where her life and history have been used in the context of Georgian nationalism, as an icon of nostalgia for a better past, and even in communist and Soviet politics. Now that we've established a general view of her unique position of importance, the next post will look at ways her life as a medieval woman and queen might surprise you. (Part 1/2)
📸 Neues Palais, em Potsdam.
Esse foi um dia que rendeu muito. Acordei 4h30 da manhã, sem nenhum sono. Esperei, e nada dele voltar.

A Glass half full kind of day... 😊
The Shard is one of the most iconic buildings in London (& the tallest in the UK) and offers outstanding views along the River Thames taking in such historical landmarks as The Tower of London and Tower Bridge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To enjoy a vino with your view, book in with one of the restaurants and bars housed in the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard. A wonderful sunset view can be enjoyed (subject to the usual British Weather 😉) in Gong on the 52nd floor where you can enjoy views of the City and beyond whilst sipping one of their spectacular cocktails. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fancy somewhere to stay after your cocktails? A room for the night starts at around £500 and their top suite is around £10,000. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So the only question that remains is: one night or two?? 😉
So many exciting things have been happening at The Walter including the start of our landscaping. We can’t wait to enjoy summer nights on this back patio in the magical garden. ❀❀❀
Yesterday we received our final permit for guest lodging and as soon as we can wrap this up, we can start welcoming overnight guests in this incredible space! Huge thank you to our Mt. Tabor neighbors who have supported us through this process! ♡
