healthandwellness The very first year I started lifting I took things very seriously, not overboard, but I knew what I wanted and I wasn’t going to let anything stop me. I’ve been working out consistently for a good 7 years now but I definitely have ups and downs with how dedicated I am to my training and nutrition. Not saying that’s a bad thing, I think that sometimes we have to take little breaks and go through less motivated times to appreciate and fall back in love with it when we come back.

So basically that was a long way of saying that I’ve got that fire back and I’m ready to get a bit more serious with my goals. I know I could be doing way more and I’m going to do just that. I got my groceries, wrote out my goals and I’m sticking to ‘em (not gonna lie, when I tell you guys I’m doing something I’m 10x more likely to stick with it so thanks for the accountability😊)

I’ll keep you guys updated but for now I’m planning month by month what I want to accomplish and Here are a few for this month:
•Not eating out more than once a week
•planning my workouts ahead of time and going 5 days per week with active rest days
•prioritizing my nutrition bc this is definitely something I’ve been slacking on.
•make some strength gains

Being present is hard but it’s not impossible, it’s actually essential to our well being. That’s why mindfulness is so important. Especially now a days, with every opportunity to become distracted, fast paced environments and endless to-dos.

Without mindfulness we don’t have awareness. That’s why I preach about meditation above all, it’s helped me become aware of my thoughts, learn to observe them and release them instead of letting them control me.

If we’re honest when we find ourselves in a stressful situation, what does stress and negative thoughts bring.. more stress and negative thoughts.

So let the magic (your mind) work for you, not against you. Take time out of your day to truly listen to what you need #themindfultime.

Start to become aware of your thoughts.. observe them and choose the thoughts that you do want to think. It starts here, in your mind.. you hold that power to create your reality.  #themindfultime #selfawareness

healthandwellness HELLO SUNSHINE! ☀️ Saying goodbye to Night Shift- kinda sorta! I’ve worked the night shift my entire 8 year nursing career plus the 1 year spent working night shift as CNA while in school. 9 years of night shift and my body has been screaming at me and begging me to stop. At the beginning of the year I changed specialties and joined the Emergency Transport Team, a very small department. With this switch I knew day shift was not going to be an option for me for a very, very long time. But it was my dream job so I was more than willing to make the sacrifice for nights.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With how busy our team is, we’re adding a 3rd swing shift team. I just found out that I was chosen for swing shift and I am BEYOND happy! Swing shift is typically 1pm-1am. This is a HUGE improvement from getting off work at 7:30am. Swing shift is also actually more ideal for me than day shift because training at the gym would be really hard to do when working 7am-7pm. Now I can wake up at a reasonable hour and have plenty of time to workout + run errands before starting work AND still get off at night and sleep when it’s dark. For 12 hour shifts, this is absolutely the best case scenario for me! It’s going to be a few months before this change takes place but I can’t wait to see how much better I feel!

Working Night Shift is associated with some pretty significant health problems including:
* Insomnia * Increased cardiovascular disease risk
* Increased cancer risk
* Obesity
* Higher incidence of diabetes
* Metabolic disease

* GI problems (ulcers, GERD, nausea, constipation, diarrhea)
* Fertility Problems
* Decreased quality of life
* General feeling of being unwell

healthandwellness I love food. It’s one of my biggest passions. But that’s because we haven’t always had the most stable relationship.

In high school, I ate less than 800 calories/day and survived off iceberg lettuce and fat free dressing. 
In college I snapped and started binge drinking and eating on the weekends. Eating as much pizza and junk until I was BEYOND full. 
And then my junior year I finally started learning about nutrition, and macros, and nutrients, and that it’s about SO MUCH MORE that just calories. 
And that’s when it all changed for me. I stopped feeling like crap, I stopped obsessing over food, I was able to build a body I had always dreamed of, and life just got better! 
I don’t really know where I’m going with this I just want you guys to know that healthy eating hasn’t always come easy to me. And if this just inspires one of you in some way shape or form, then my mission in life is complete 💕

If you feel like you might have a cold or flu developing, you can use a healing practice I call “zinc shock therapy.” It’s important to begin it as soon as you get your first sign of a cold or flu, such as a tickle or soreness in the throat, feeling rundown and weak, fatigue, fever or aches and pains. It’s important to have a bottle of high-quality liquid zinc sulfate (@vimergy) on hand at all times so you have it ready as soon as you feel symptoms coming on.

Squirt two dropperfuls of liquid zinc sulfate into your throat, let it sit there for a full minute and then swallow the zinc.

Let’s talk about 90-day challenges, and how 90% of them are a waste of your time, effort, and money.

The problem isn’t always the programs themselves, though. There are plenty of 90-day challenges that provide value & education, and can get you fantabulous results.

My beef's with the marketing behind most challenges.
⠀ 
See, many on ‘em prey on desperate people and say things like:
⠀
“Get six-pack abs in just 90 days!”
⠀
“Shred all your body fat in 12 weeks… just in time for summer!”
⠀
Sounds enticing, right?
⠀ 
And depending on your current state, those claims might be true. If you’re already lean, or just have 10-15 pounds of fat to lose, 90 days can be a realistic amount of time to see results.
⠀
But if you’re hoping to lose 40+ pounds, or go from “fat to fit” in a mere 12 weeks, you’re only setting yourself up for failure…
⠀
Truth is, transforming your body takes a LONG time.
⠀
And even then, your results are meaningless unless you build a lifestyle around maintaining ‘em.
⠀
So when people ask me “how long do you think it’ll take me to achieve my goals?”
⠀
I usually say, “at least one year.”
⠀ 
And that’s regardless of their starting point.
⠀ 
Reason being, whether you have 10 or 100 pounds to lose, changing deeply-rooted unhealthy habits and negative self-talk is going to take more than 90 days.
⠀
Here’s the good news ✅: You may not go from 30% + body fat to lean ‘n’ mean in 90 days, but you can make some awesome progress towards it!
⠀
Just be smart about it…
⠀ 
If you find a 90-day challenge that forces your to eliminate certain foods or do strenuously 2+ hour workouts 7 days per week….
⠀
You’ll just be setting yourself up for struggle 90 days from now. Heck, you might just quit 30-40 days in...
⠀
There’s nothing wrong with pushing yourself and being motivated by physical results...
⠀ 
Just don’t let that motivation blind you from what really matters — which is making this whole health & fitness thingy an enjoyable lifestyle 💪🤪

healthandwellness This is the first of many years that I will be giving teacher gifts. As a therapist, I know how great it feels to be appreciated by the kiddos that I work with, so I really want to give something that will be of use to the teachers. 
I need some opinions... I am pretty set on a holiday craft that I plan to create along with a mug. What I am going back and forth on is what to give in the mug. Should I give hot chocolate with Peppermint Vitality essential oil to flavor the hot chocolate, honey infused with immunity oils to fight the icky germs being passed around during this time of year, or some calming tea bags with Lavender Vitality for those sleepless nights?
