fit Before I got into mountain biking I used to absolutely dread the question “what are your hobbies? What do you do for fun?” You know the question you get asked on first dates, the one that lets people get to know a deeper version of yourself. It’s the same as asking what your passions are, what drives your spirit, what sparks the fire within your soul. I hated this question more than anything. Not because I wasn’t a passionate person- I’ve always been passionate about my family, my friends, and my career as a teacher- but when it came to hobbies, when it came to how I spent my free time? Well when I wasn’t with the people I loved... I was no longer being fueled by passion. Instead of living my life passionately I became bored. I’d watch a show to pass the time, I’d cook a meal, clean my apartment. I genuinely thought I was happy with my life- but there was still something missing- something I hadn’t discovered yet- I wasn’t living my life to the fullest. And then I was introduced to mountain biking- which changed everything for me. My free time was no longer spent mindlessly watching a show I’d forget about a few months later or doing other meaningless tasks to pass the time... I was doing something that not only improved my physical health but mental health as well. I was introduced to the adrenaline, I was fueled by the desire to improve, to continue to work on myself. Everyday became an adventure. Everyday I embraced new challenges and some days I would even overcome them. Mountain biking really has opened up a whole new world for me- I’m now in love with the outdoors, camping, exploring, going to new place to check out different trails and meet new people. It also inspired me to try other sports like snowboarding. It’s important to be passionate about everything we do and that’s one of the main reasons why I decided to move. Six days from now I’ll be hopping in my car and driving 33 hours to a new location. A place full of adventure where I’ll be able to live everyday doing what I love. Excited for what’s coming next. Stay tuned.

fit In een vorige post heb in uitgelegd wat de basics zijn wanneer je wil starten met powerliftingachtige trainingen. (Zie story voor deze post). Maar wat nu? Hoe wil je het vervolgens vormgeven? We kunnen onderscheid maken tussen 2 verschillende soorten oefeningen: je competitieve oefeningen en je accessory oefeningen.

Je competitieve oefeningen kun je zien als je squat, bench en deadlift. Dit omdat deze oefeningen op wedstrijden uitgevoerd worden. Zie het echter niet te zwart/wit. Wanneer jij sterk wil worden op je hip thrust, overheadpress of pull-ups, is dit voor jou misschien wel een competitieve oefening, ondanks dat daar geen wedstrijden voor zijn.

Deze oefeningen worden idealiter gedaan in een lagere reprange (1-6) Trainen in een lagere reprange zal zorgen voor meer krachtprogressie dan trainen in een hogere reprange.

Vervolgens heb je accessory oefeningen. Deze hebben 2 functies: het verbeteren van je mainlifts (zoals een pin-squat of een deficit deadlift). Deze oefeningen zijn specifiek op basis van jouw lichaamsverhoudingen en zwakke delen van je range of motion in je mainlifts.

Daarnaast hebben accessory oefeningen de functie om genoeg volume te draaien om daadwerkelijk spiermassa aan te zetten. Meer spiermassa betekend in potentie meer krachtoutput! 
Ook kunnen accesory oefeningen ingezet worden om je blessurerisico zo laag mogelijk te houden. Zo
Zullen high rows niet direct bijdragen aan je kracht tijdens het bankdrukken, maar kunnen ze wel zorgen voor een goede balans tussen je push en pull spieren, wat blessurerisico’s verkleint! 
Accessory oefeningen kunnen ingezet worden in een lage reprange (pin squats om een deel van de ROM binnen je squat na te bootsen en verbeteren) en high rep (zoals facepulls, leg curls, leg extensions). Het klinkt misschien logisch, maar naar mijn mening zul je niet graag hip thrusts of overhead presses doen voor + 15 reps, en zul je leg extensions niet snel heel laag in herhalingen doen!

fit Dzisiaj coś dla fanów ciast „mordoklejek”😂 To słowo chyba najlepiej opisuje konsystencję tego ciasta😁 Brownie wyszło kleiste, zbite i mocno czekoladowe, czyli takie, jakie lubię najbardziej😍 Zauważyłam, że spora część z Was jest na diecie wegańskiej, więc myślę, że przepis się przyda🙈 Ale innych też gorąco zachęcam do wypróbowania przepisu!😍 Nie trzeba być weganinem, by docenić smak tego ciasta!😄

Had Monday off and made it a family day so back to training today 🏃🏻‍♂️ 4.48 miles at 6:03 min/mile pace and jumping back onto the bike for a little 16.2km ride 🚲  The weather was something else today...It is where you develop that layer of glistening sweat 0.5 miles into your run and drink a gallon of water afterwards👌 Remember team, you don’t have to be thirsty to be dehydrated and that will reflect in you ur performance by making you fatigue more quickly! •
This morning’s post run and cycle workout consisted off press up cadence test, 2 x PRMC sit up test, 100 diamond press ups, 80 calf raises, 50 jumping squats and 8mins of planking 🏋🏻‍♂️ •
Could do with some cooler weather, only slightly though, for tomorrow’s mid progression run 🙃 Not that I’m complaining about the heat in true British fashion...

Se me ocurrió luego de haber hablado algo de diabetes ayer y haber tenido una paciente que me refirió que tenía la costumbre de comer un ALFAJOR DE MAICENA a mediamañana (su esquema insulínico le indicaba una colación a esa hora). 😱 Ahora bien, acá viene lo peor: para evitar picos glucémicos, su nutricionista se lo indicaba con mix de frutos secos o FRUTAS CON CASCARA (estimo que por la fibra, y la prote dónde está?🙄). Emotions that come out half baked, passive aggressive or the opposite: overly strong and abrasive have to do with Liver, which smooths their fluctuations. Overly thinking about, mulling over, figuring in our mind what we are feeling versus just being in our bodies and feeling it is Spleen . The denial of our emotions, what just *is* about us or something is Lung, which goes internally and leads to depression. Or refusing to feel out of fear, and just pushing on and constantly being on guard of feeling anything is Kidney. Suppression, lack of completion on these fronts, leads to heat and stagnation- again, something that the Liver can address as it stores Blood and directs its movement. It’s not all cut and dry like this either. Human beings are complicated. So there’s the emotion, and then there’s the way the emotion moves in the body which helps us diagnose and treat. The only true answer to this in treatment is self-awareness with a competent and cultivated practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Those are the moments of truth, where fear and the guard in being ourselves comes down (Pericardium). And this, my friends. Is where we can stop bullshitting ourselves. 😂 .
