delayedcordclamping DELAYED CORD CLAMPING - WAIT FOR WHITE
After baby is born we usually think of the umbilical cord as a relic – part a life support system that is no longer needed. But the reality is that the cord has one last job to do, and it’s a big one.

The cord and placenta are a sort of external circulation system: one vein carries oxygen and nutrient-rich blood from the placenta to the baby, and two arteries carry carbon dioxide rich blood and waste away from baby to the placenta for purification. When baby is born, about 1/3 of its blood is in the external part of the circulation system, but quickly makes it’s way to the baby via the umbilical cord. Unless of course, the cord is cut before the transfer is complete.

Delayed umbilical cord clamping (DCC) allows more blood to transfer from the placenta to the baby, increasing the baby’s blood volume by up to a third.

The iron in the blood increases the newborn’s iron storage, which is vital for healthy brain development.

Some new studies have found that DCC can have a positive effect on both preterm and full-term babies. These benefits include an increase in placental transfusion, a 60% increase of RBCs and a 30% increase in neonatal blood volume.

Another advantage of DCC is the decreased risk of iron deficiency anemia.
The extra blood at birth helps the baby to cope better with the transition from life in the womb, where everything is provided for them by the placenta and the mother, to the outside world. Their lungs get more blood so that the exchange of oxygen into the blood can take place smoothly.

Delayed clamping also results in an infusion of stem cells, which play an essential role in the development of the immune, respiratory, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems, among many other functions. The concentration of stem cells in fetal blood is higher than at any other time of life. ICC [immediate cord clamping] leaves nearly one-third of these critical cells in the placenta.

Stem cells may also help to repair any brain damage the baby might have suffered during a difficult birth. 📸#monetnicolebirths #bumpbirthandbeyond #skyvalleymidwife #homebirth #waterbirth #delayedcordclamping #midwiferycare

delayedcordclamping Happy Saturday my loves💕 New blog post up! An educational one, so grab a snack and let’s chat. “Delayed Cord Clamping. You've probably heard the term thrown around a time or two, or breezed on by scientific articles online as you went about your business. But, now that you are either expecting or thinking about planning a pregnancy, this topic has become something you truly want to look into - and with good reason! In today's informative article, we discuss some of the incredible reasons you should seriously consider engaging in delayed cord clamping, including the major benefits for baby.
Some of the benefits to baby include: - Better hemoglobin levels at first check; less instance of anemia - Approximately one-third of a baby’s total blood volume resides in the placenta, cutting the cord early means a drastic decrease in a baby’s blood volume - For pre-term infants, increased circulation and it can allow for a higher level of red blood cell counts, and can even lessen the chances of colitis and blood transfusion

delayedcordclamping Delayed cord clamping (DCC) is quite simply when the cord isn't cut immediately after the birth. Usually several minutes pass until the cord stops pulsating at which point the cord is then cut.
Delayed cord clamping allows extra blood to be transferred from the placenta, increasing the amount of iron
transferred to your baby. Iron is essential for brain development and infants with better iron levels seem to do
better on tests of neurodevelopment later in childhood.
DCC makes babies more stable after birth. If the cord is clamped immediately, there is a sudden drop in blood
pressure due to the movement of blood into the lungs when the baby takes their first breaths. DCC allows extra blood from the placenta to replace the blood, keeping the blood pressure more stable.
There is a slightly increased risk of jaundice with DCC but it is usually mild and is usually resolved by plenty of feeding.
If DCC is something you are interested in having after your birth, speak with your care provider or write it in your birth plan 😊

delayedcordclamping I shared this image over @aboutbirthonline and we had so many comments! How’s this umbilical cord 😊 this is 4 minutes after birth, still pumping with blood, big and juicy. Some care providers say delayed cord clamping is 1 minute, but look at this cord still facilitating a placental transfusion. All this wonderful cord bliss being delivered to baby. There is a good reason they say ‘wait for white’ so the cord is completely drained before cutting it. 📷 @capturinglife_photoandfilm #aboutbirth #aboutbirthonline #onlinebirtheducation #positivebirth #midwife #delayedcordclamping #laelandjules #empoweredbirth #labour #obstetrician #hospitalbirth #callthemidwife #breastfeeding #duedates #skinonskin #birthplans #waitforwhite #breathingtechniques #partnersupport

delayedcordclamping MRS. PATEL’S PRO TIPS | Delayed Cord Clamping⠀
⠀
After baby is delivered the umbilical cord is clamped and then cut. ⠀
⠀
Many doctors clamp and cut within 10-30 seconds (approximated), but delaying the clamping by just a few minutes can provide baby with vital benefits. ⠀
⠀
Delayed cord clamping has been the norm for premature babies where there are many proven health benefits (like better blood pressure, less need for transfusions), but studies have shown that is it also good for full-term babies. ⠀
⠀
If this is something you are interested in, discuss it with your obstetrician, hospital team or midwives and add it to your birth plan accordingly.⠀
⠀
Some midwives recommend not clamping the cord until it stops pumping. However, studies have shown that most benefits occur within just 1-2 minutes after delivery, so one need not wait until the cord completely stops pulsing to clamp. Again, consult with your doctor and medical team on timing.⠀
⠀
BENEFITS INCLUDE: ⠀
⠀
✂️ An increase in baby’s blood volume⠀
⠀
✂️ An increase in baby’s iron levels⠀
⠀
✂️ Allows baby to receive more vital cord blood ⠀
⠀
✂️ Can aid in baby’s brain development ⠀
⠀
NOTE: If there is any issue with baby (or mama) at all after delivery, the cord will be clamped and cut so that doctors can attend to the baby or mama ASAP. Baby’s and your health are most important. ⠀

delayedcordclamping This is a placenta print. My tree of life. ⁣
Those are placenta pills that I take like a supplement most days (when I remember). Think it’s weird? Did you know all mammals (except us) consume theirs after birth? 🤔 ⁣
This is Hannah’s cord that we left attached until it stopped pulsing and turned white returning all her blood to her body. Then we made it into an H 😂⁣
⁣
Placentas are cool. Made from scratch. Literally a temporary organ that houses, nourishes, and gives life to the baby. Then it too gets delivered. ⁣
⁣
Hannah is six months old today. I should probably get to work on that birth story, huh?

delayedcordclamping 🕊 Clare’s Birth Story 🕊

I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to have a baby. Regardless of what your birth preferences are, and no matter if and how they change on your baby’s birthing day, birth is birth 🤍

My water broke on Mother’s Day at 4am. At 9pm after no signs of labor we headed to the hospital. I had chosen not to get an epidural so my midwife and I decided to do a few natural induction techniques to get things going.
10:15pm: 2-3 cm
4:15am: 5-6 cm
5:40am: 9-10 cm
6:37am: started pushing
7:00am: shift change at the hospital. I had my eyes closed trying to stay calm but Eric said the whole floor was in there. It was go time!
7:15: Clare was delivered by my amazing midwife Jodi and I was fortunate to have my OB in the room as well.
7:21: Dad cut the umbilical cord
I couldn’t have done it without Eric who believed in me from the beginning. It was the best day of our lives 🤍

delayedcordclamping Detail of “Mother”. I’m working on my artist statement, as I finish a proposal for an art show about birth. Here’s a snippet:
I am currently creating a series of works which explore a culturally revolutionary perspective on the natural process of birth and motherhood. My work is focused on revealing the powerful, wild beauty of a woman as she touches the veil between worlds, growing, birthing, and sustaining a new being; a new soul. I am adding new images to our cultural database to combat the degrading ones which so easily subvert the power of women. The need to deconstruct and replace the accepted, ingrained, patriarchal perspective of birth stems from my own experience birthing, mothering, and becoming trained as a birth doula. #birthart #birthisbeautiful #birthasariteofpassage #sacredbirth #ecstaticbirth #joyfulbirth #homebirth #hospitalbirth #birthwithoutfear #optionssupportrespect #delayedcordclamping #vernix #newborn #birthphotography #freebirth #mnart #duluthmn #duluthart #duluthartist #mnartist #minnesotaartist #pregnantlife #birth

delayedcordclamping Delayed Umbilical Cord Clamping and Cutting
.
.
Belajar lagi kuy Mom...
.
Kita tau bahwa plasenta dan tali pusat teman kehidupan baby di dalam rahim, dan ketika baby sudah lahirplasenta menghakhiri tugasnya untuk memgalirkan oksigen dan nutrisi ke baby.
.
Penundaan penjepitan dan pemotongan tali pusat/ Delayed Umbilical Cord Clamping and Cutting menurut WHO dilakukan 1 sampai 3 menit setelah kelahiran, atau sampai tali pusat berhenti berdenyut.

delayedcordclamping My daughters umbilical cord on the left and my sons on the right (Both were very active babies and came out with a knot in their cord). You will notice right away how big my daughters cord looks compared to my sons. My daughters cord was cut prematurely which is why a lot of blood is still present in her cord. (That blood should have been in my daughters body, not left in her cord, then taken away) Who knows what they do with our cord blood and placentas. There are so many great benefits with delayed cord clamping. I’m so happy that I was educated this time around. I recommend doing your research before allowing anyone to cut your cord. 🚫Of course everyone’s circumstances are different, this may not apply to everyone🚫 .

delayedcordclamping Placentas are fascinating...they are the only organ that a woman isn't born with which the body naturally disposes of when it is no longer needed. Here the midwife is giving a tour of the placenta showing how the cord was inserted in the membrane area instead of in the middle. I love how baby is still attached to the cord...You can't see it but he's also attached to the breast! 💕

delayedcordclamping ✂️Let’s talk about cutting the cord✂️⠀
⠀
Did you know that 30% of your baby’s blood exists outside of their body at the time of birth? While the cord is still pulsating, it continues to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the baby, as they transition to life outside of their mom.🌿⠀
⠀
The placenta, amniotic sac, and umbilical cord are all elements of birth that have very specific purposes in keeping the baby alive and well. ⠀
⠀
Leaving the cord attached until it turns white allows for maximum transfer of vital stem cells, iron, antibodies, and white blood cells or even better, how about leaving it attached until your body naturally expels the placenta completely, then cutting it? That way you know for a fact that your baby has received all its blood without a doubt - that’s what we do at Tender Gifts! After all, the cord was baby’s lifeline for the past nine months. Let mother nature work its ways.⠀
⠀
You can discuss the option of #delayedcordclamping with your midwife. Tender Gifts is dedicated to customized birth plans that are right for YOU. All parents should have the right to make their own choices.⠀
⠀
For moms that have given birth before, how long did you leave the placenta attached? ⠀

Natural cord clamping.
All that blood in the cord and the placenta? It all belongs to the baby. Actually, 1/3 of their blood is outside of their body being circulated when they are born if the cord is cut immediately. Most research on delayed cord clamping is done with a time to clamp of of 1-2 minutes from birth. Midwives tend to leave the cord until pulsing from the placenta has stopped or even until after the placenta delivers. Research has shown babies with delayed cord clamping have higher levels of hemoglobin and iron stores (up to 2 years of age). There is also continued supply of oxygen after the birth in the case of infant resuscitation. It may even aid in early neurological development and cellular repair of microtraumas from the birth. Most importantly, 👌🏻 photo opps. .

delayedcordclamping Let’s talk about delayed cord clamping…
.
What are the benefits?
Studies have found delayed cord clamping allows more blood to transfer from the placenta to the baby, at times increasing the newborns blood volume by up to 1/3 with a 60% increase of RBCs. The iron in the blood increases the infants iron storage which aids in brain development and decreases the risk of iron deficiency anemia. Their lungs get more blood so the exchange of oxygen into the blood can take place smoothly (Dr. Rabe). Delayed cord clamping also results in increased levels of stem cells which are essential to the development of the immune, respiratory, cardiovascular and central nervous systems.
.
What are the risks?
Delayed cord clamping can increase the risk of jaundice. There are multiple ways for newborn jaundice to be treated. In a hospital setting it is typically treated with phototherapy (or light treatment) to reduce the bilirubin level in the blood.
Do the benefits outweigh the risks?
.
WHO, ACOG and AAP all recommend delayed cord clamping

delayedcordclamping Why you should consider delay cord clamping by 3-5 minutes
•
Did you know that close to 1/4-1/3 of a baby’s blood volume can be lost by cutting the cord too early? In fact—a baby who doesn’t receive enough placental blood can be anemic up to one year after birth.
•
This blood volume is essential for the baby’s blood pressure, functioning of the heart, as well as their developing lungs. Cutting/clamping too early forces your baby to use energy to replace that blood supply which causes a lot of work. This causes your baby to be in “catch-up” mode, rather than growth mode.

"Skin-to-skin contact is usually referred to as the practice where a baby is laid directly on their mother's bare chest after birth both of them covered in a warm blanket and left for at least an hour or until after the first feed." . There are many benefits to skin-to-skin, and while that is happening, here's a couple of post-birth hacks both mummy and daddy could do. . [1] go kill two birds with one stone. While baby is getting his/her last bit of that juicy, nutritious supply of placental blood through delayed cord clamping, get him/her on mummy's chest for a skin-to-skin moment (both of which should be in your birth plan already!) . [2] for first time fathers who are anxious to hold such a fragile human being, you can make the Azan and Iqamah while baby is comfortably resting on mummy's bosom. And of course, some Surahs (e.g.Al-Ikhlas) and some du'a(s) would be great too, ayah mithali! . [3] support your wife to establish breastfeeding. It can be a bit tricky at first so don't hesitate to seek assistance if needed. . There you have it! Hope you guys find this beneficial. If you do, #payitforward! . P/s "mothers and babies who are unable to have skin contact immediately after birth are encouraged to commence skin contact as soon as they are able, whenever or wherever that may be." . Yours sincerely, The Doula Husband . delayedcordclamping Did you know babies continue to get blood and oxygen from the placenta outside of the womb? WHO recommends babies to stay connected via the umbilical cord for 1-5 minutes after birth to ensure increased blood supply before clamping and cutting the cord. ————————————————————————
Not only does this mean your babe is still getting the oxygen from the cord blood, but also ensures your baby will have optimal iron levels post birth! This is an essential element to neonatal health. And you know what else? A recent study in America found that delayed cord clamping also contributes to myelin development in the newborn brain - for better sensory processing, visual development and gives your baby extra stem cells at birth... ————————————————————————-Delayed cord clamping should be one of the main things you discuss with your midwife when you’re in the birth room. And make sure it’s not a “20 second minute” - count it down and give your baby the extra nourishment! ————————————————————————-Please be aware though, if there is an emergency situation you will not be able to delay the clamping of the cord. There’s a few other reasons they may not be able to delay the cord so have a chat with your midwife about the specifics. ———————————————————————-Stay informed ✌🏽

delayedcordclamping Can I delay cord clamping -AND- bank my baby’s cord blood? YES! A lot of successful cord blood collections are performed in the 30-60 second window. And don’t forget- you can always store the cord tissue cells as well. 🙌
Get educated today on your options for preserving your baby’s precious stem cells and always consult with your practitioner on what’s best for you. 1•888•CORDBLOOD 🩸

delayedcordclamping Lotus Birth.
The art of keeping the placenta attached until it comes off natural, gently allowing the baby to be in full control of when they officially land here on Earth and kiss the phase in utero farewell. It honors the incredible piece of life that kept baby fed and healthy all that time growing inside the womb
Also allows a completely pain/trauma free landing experience as apposed to cord severance.
Did you know 1/3 of the babies blood moves into the placenta before birth so that it's easier for the baby to fit through the birth canal? Leaving the cord pulsing for even 5 minutes allows that blood to be pumped back into the babies body.
Luckily the world is catching on to how important #delayedcordclamping is.
We wash the #placenta in the first few hours and then continue to change its wrapping and add fresh herbs to it each day to prevent smell and keep it as fresh as possible.
This time we used only #rosemary and it took 5 or 6 days to come off.
Fun fact: with Dax his cord came off on his 4th day #earthside and he didnt #breastfeed until then either.
Magically somehow staying attached to his placenta kept him satisfied and not interested in the breast at all even though the cord was completely dried out by the second day.

delayedcordclamping Cesarean birth is when the 👶🏽 is born surgically through the abdominal wall instead of the vaginal canal. There are different reasons why a person might need a cesarean surgery. The Family-Centered Cesarean is a way of supporting the physical and emotional health of the parents and baby.

More hospitals are allowing: 🌼 the birth giver to go into labor naturally before heading to the Operation Room (OR), 🌼 a support person to come in the OR while the pregnant person gets the spinal epidural, 🌼 placing the monitors on the birth giver’s back to facilitate skin to skin, 🌼 use of oxygen mask only when needed, 🌼 an extra support person in the room (aka doula), 🌼 informed refusal to clean the vaginal canal with antiseptic, and 🌼 hands-free to hold the baby after birth.

Other evidence-based policies for surgical births are 🌼 dropping the drapes to see the birth of the baby, 🌼 delivering the baby slowly from the incision, 🌼 delaying cord clamping, 🌼 keeping the parents and baby together, 🌼 skin-to-skin or kangaroo care, 🌼 the magical hour, and 🌼 seeding with vaginal flora.

delayedcordclamping Can you see a “surprise face” here? This is how I remember what’s in the umbilical cord. Even though your baby doesn’t “breathe” inutero, there is a large vein in the umbilical cord that carries the oxygen filled blood from the mother to the baby via the placenta, and there are two smaller arteries in the umbilical cord, which carry oxygen depleted blood and waste back to the mother via the placenta.

delayedcordclamping “Another thing very injurious to the child, is tying and cutting of the navel string too soon; which should always be left till the child has not only repeatedly breathed but till all pulsation in the cord ceases. As otherwise the child is much weaker than it ought to be, a portion of the blood being left in the placenta, which ought to have been in the child.” - Erasmus Darwin (Charles Darwin’s grandfather), Zoonomia, 1801.⁣
⁣
The practice of severing the mother-placenta-child connection only started when men began to take over the management of childbirth. Having a doctor attend your birth was a class and status thing, you’d have one if you could afford one. It was fashionable, but didn’t lead to better outcomes for MotherBaby.⁣
⁣
The women who were intimately experienced and knowledgeable with birth, who treated birth gently and reverently, were the mothers, aunts, and neighbours- the original doulas and midwives. They were eventually pushed out of the birth space. Birth moved from home to hospital, and the cord was clamped early with no evidence to show the necessity (just like a lot of other birth interventions that take place these days). Baby’s were, and still are, denied up to a third of their own blood and stem cells because of early cord clamping.⁣
⁣
It is your right to request delayed clamping, or no clamping at all. This is also important for premature baby’s. Ensure you have this discussion with your care provider prior to labour, multiple times. You baby has a right to it’s own blood.⁣
⁣
Delayed clamping is a much gentler and kinder way to bring your child into the world. It reduces baby’s risk of anaemia, it improves their early breathing by filling the lungs and other organ systems with blood for optimal function and it reduces the size of the placenta, making it easier to deliver.⁣
⁣
Soon I will do a post about Lotus Birth, which creates a beautiful and spiritual ceremony for you, your baby and your placenta. Stay posted!⁣

delayedcordclamping ‘Wait for White’
Here is cord and placenta where clamping was delayed for >30mins after baby was born. We only clamped and cut it then on request so mum could move more freely to help the placenta deliver.
She was Rhesus Negative and you can also see the sample of blood I got easily, for the lab, from the placenta after it was delivered.
I’m going through delayed cord clamping/wait for white in my stories tonight and will save it to my highlights.
Would love to hear your experience or any questions below ⬇️❤️

delayedcordclamping 36 Weeks with Baby Girl😌 ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Baby is starting to run out of space in my belly and is stretching every time she feels squished🙈 She reacts every time I start singing, mostly nursery rhymes because let’s be real, with a toddler my most repeated song is “baby shark” or “twinkle twinkle little star” 😅 But she loves it either way🥰 ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
My midwife gave me the best news and said that even though they do #delayedcordclamping as a routine in the hospital, I can go as long as an hour without clamping the cord or after I deliver the placenta! The things you get exited about lol ⠀
I would’ve insisted on that either way, but it’s so nice to have your caregiver on your side and not give you a hard time about the choices you make! ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
As far as delivery goes, I still have no idea if I’ll be able to actually deliver in water like I originally planned to. Because of the #covid19, they for some reason let the mother water in labor but not actually give birth. So I’m not sure how that will go.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Hospital bags are still not packed🤷🏼‍♀️ With Aidan I over packed so much ( brought my yoga matte and yoga ball with me) 😂 but this time I’m actually going to need to over pack because they won’t let Serge leave the hospital and come back. Once we come there, we both stay for the rest of the time😒 I’m not exited about the hospital food😅 ⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Should I share what I’m packing for hospital bag and diaper bag with baby #2? Let me know! I think it will be interesting to see, I’m always nosy about what other people pack. Some of these girls on YouTube are packing some ridiculous stuff that I’m pretty sure they won’t even remember they have when they’re at the hospital😆⠀

delayedcordclamping Delayed Cord Clamping. ⠀
Do you know the benefits? Do you know what your provider means when they say they ‘delay clamping’? Defining terms is important. What delaying means to them may be 60 seconds. What delaying means to you may mean until the cord stops pulsing. Make sure your terms match!⠀
Who cut your baby’s cord? Most of the time it’s partners. Sometimes the doctor. I cut my 5th baby’s cord myself. I’ve even had the honor of cutting the cords of some of my doula babies!⠀

I’ve even had the honor of cutting the cords of some of my doula babies!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #baby #birth #doula #birthdoula #umbilicalcord #delayedcordclamping #birthwithoutfear #sacramentobirthdoula #sacramentobirthcommunity #amador #amadorcounty #goldcountry #amadorbirthcommunity

❕❗️❕The color of birth❕❗️❕⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣
Sometimes it takes a few minutes for babies to transition from in utero to spontaneous breathing at birth. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Often they are born purple or blue. The blood in the placenta and cord continues to transfer to baby while they transition and begin to breathe. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Then they begin to turn pinker as normal breathing is established, usually within the first minute. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
All of this is totally normal. Provide gentle stimulation and place a warm towel and hat on baby. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
What is vitally important is that the cord is left intact and NOT CLAMPED⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣
DO NOT prematurely cut the cord. It will help babies to transition - the blood provides volume to perfuse the vital organs, the brain, heart, kidneys and lungs.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
❗️⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Plus stem cells and lots of iron. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

delayedcordclamping ▪️Delayed Cord Clamping▪️
.
◾️ Delayed Cord Clamping (DCC) is the recommended practice in all maternity units, as per the National Institute of Health Care Excellence (NICE) Guidelines.
◾️ This describes leaving the baby’s umbilical cord attached to mum for approximately 1- 5 minutes after birth, until it naturally stops pulsating, allowing the baby’s blood remaining in the placenta to be naturally transferred back into your baby.
◾️ It has the benefit of increasing the iron levels in your baby and increasing the stem cells, which can help with your baby’s immunity.
◾️ Delayed Cord Clamping is now standard practice at all spontaneous vaginal births, all instrumental/assisted vaginal births and all Caesarean Sections, by all healthcare professionals.
◾️ Delayed cord clamping is still possible whether you choose Active or Physiological Management of the Third Stage of Labour.

delayedcordclamping Delayed cord clamping allows the blood from the placenta to continue being transferred to the baby even after they are born, meaning the baby could receive up 30% more blood than they would have without it ✨

The benefits of this include :

Increased iron levels in the baby up until they are six months old which helps with growth, physical and emotional development ✨

Increased amount of stem cells, which helps with your baby’s growth and immune system ✨

Beautiful photo by @monetnicolebirths ✨

The bones of a newborn baby's skull are soft and flexible, with gaps between the plates of bone. .
.
.

When a baby is born in a head-first position, pressure on the head in the birth canal may mold the head into an oblong shape. .
.
.
These spaces between the bones allow the baby's head to change shape👏🏼

delayedcordclamping @belle_verdiglione Delayed Cord Clamping: you need to weigh up the benefits vs the risks and always in conjunction with your medical care provider & the best needs for you & your baby .... but here are 5 benefits to delaying the clamping of the cord:
#1: NEURODEVELOPMENTAL BENEFITS

#2: DECREASED RISK OF ANAEMIA

#3: INCREASED BLOOD VOLUME / SMOOTHER CARDIOPULMONARY TRANSITION

#4: INCREASED LEVELS OF STEM CELLS

#5: BETTER OUTCOMES FOR PRE-TERM BABIES

delayedcordclamping Delayed cord clamping or optimum cord clamping - plenty of benefits for delaying clamping the first but you may need to be specific with care providers, as sometimes “delayed” can be subjective and can range from 1 minutes to 5.. it’s up to you to voice your wants and #waitforwhite if that’s what you choose

What a beautiful visual of what some babies look like before they fully transition. The purple color is totally normal, and not all babes come out screaming right away. As they start breathing on their own and finish receiving their placental blood (just look at that cord!) they will pink up. Your care provider keeps a close eye on their color and tone in those first few moments and can provide the help if needed.
It’s important to see and recognize variations of birth before your baby comes so you are prepared and ready to allow your babe the time they need.
Posted @withregram • @jennifermasonphotography The color of birth.
Sometimes it takes a few minutes for babies to transition from womb to earthside. Often they are born purple or blue. The placenta and cord pump blood to baby while they transition and breath oxygen. Then they pink up.
In locations with higher elevation, babies are born even more purple.
All of this is totally normal. Babies transition within a few minutes. Keeping the cord pulsing and NOT allowing it to be cut will help them to transition while getting the blood from the placenta and lots of iron, which babies need!! Delay cord clamping if at all possible 🌸

All of this is totally normal. Babies transition within a few minutes. Keeping the cord pulsing and NOT allowing it to be cut will help them to transition while getting the blood from the placenta and lots of iron, which babies need!! Delay cord clamping if at all possible 🌸 . #birthphotography #born #birthphotography #birth #homebirth #annarborbirth #whynothome #birthstory #doulaheathertaylorsd #sandiegodoula #pregnancy #cordblood #umbilicalcord #delayedcordclamping #maternity #labor #doula #birth #baby #childbirth #motherhood #newborn # #birthwithoutfear #midwife #babybump #birthdoula #birthwork #breastfeeding #support #postpartum #breastfeeding

Delaying clamping lets blood continue to flow from the placenta to the newborn baby after delivery. ResearchTrusted Source suggests this blood can greatly benefit newborns, especially preterm babies.

Waiting one minute allows your baby to receive about 80 milliliters (mL) of blood from the placenta. After three minutes, this increases to 100 mL.

If you want to delay cord clamping but still hold your baby right after birth, it may be possible to do both. It’s also safe for the baby to latch on and begin breastfeeding right away.

Routine newborn care, like weighing the baby, happens once the cord is cut.

PART 3

We reached hospital at around 8.45am & were going to wait for a natural birth as planned. Doctor mentioned that I was already effaced & need to open little more so kept fetal heart rate monitor & started observing the contractions. But my baby passed meconium inside my womb & all of a sudden my birthing took a U turn to C sec. An emergency c-sec was performed immediately; she considered my birth preferences & allowed the presence of my husband during the procedure. Our baby girl had to be shifted to NICU immediately as she had aspirated meconium & I only got to see her on Day 3. Those two days felt so long but I remained positive & that first look of my angel removed all my disappointments. I would cherish it throughout my life.
At that moment we realized that though it was not the way we imagined the birthing all these months, our efforts were not lost in vain. My baby is a calm & active HypnoBaby with required nourishment & good birth weight which was the factor I chose in the relaxation script & is an absolute blend of both of us.

My recovery was as quick as the ones with normal delivery as I could stay very positive even after the unplanned turn in my birthing & my body had the required stamina due to all the exercises i had done. We understood that HypnoBirthing is not just about having a natural delivery but it’s about how you train your mind & body to stay positive, confident & strong in any situation.

I kicked off the journey with lot of inhibitions but as time passed I had a great sense of confidence & positive attitude that I can handle things on my own at any point of time without any dependency on anyone. This turn around in my thinking & attitude is only because of the positive vibes, motivation & boost up given by my hubby, my HypnoBirthing & pre natal exercise trainer, my gyanec & other friends.

I would like to thank God for blessing us with a little angel & thank all the lovely people who have been a part of this wonderful journey with me.

I am now excited for the next challenge of parenting!!

PART 2

HypnoBirthing classes had filled me with positive vibes & confidence that I was able to work & also cook until a day before my baby's birth without any fear or physical discomfort. All this would not have been possible without the motivation, guidance & support of Barkha ma'am.

My husband's care, Dr Barkha's sessions & the comfort zone I had with my gynec, Dr Shraddha ma'am had made me change my plan to birth my baby in Nagpur. Needless to say that God has been holding my hand all along the journey & blessed me with happiness always.

I experienced preterm labor in 8th month and was on rest for a fortnight. I resumed with the exercises & kept practicing the relaxation & breathing techniques that we learnt during our HypnoBirthing sessions. To our surprise I could complete the entire 9th month with ease without any discomfort. All this was because of the wonderful affirmations of HypnoBirthing which helped me to stay cool. Along with these, Barkha ma’am has been available & very helpful during the whole journey & guided with solutions whenever I had some discomfort or issue. She conducted couple sessions & shared many books which gave me more insight about how to deal with different situations during this phase as well as post delivery. Also, the WhatsApp group that she created helped a lot to pool information from many other moms.
On 31st March early morning, I suddenly had this hunch that it’s the day & told my husband about my feeling at around 4am. After 6am I started feeling tightness that gradually reached to10mins interval in an hour. At around 6.45am I used washroom & felt that my water broke. I then reached out to my gyanec & she suggested that I should reach hospital ASAP.

Unlike many would-be mom's that I came across, I was not feeling scared or anxious or stressed about the next few hours of my birthing & started from home with a very cool & calm state of mind with no tension despite the covid 19 lockdown; knowing well that none of my family members will be allowed & it’s only both of us to handle things. I strongly feel all this is because of the relaxation techniques learnt in HypnoBirthing sessions.

An Amazing Journey & A Dream Came True
Birth Story of Bindu; Senior Associate, Team Lead in Cognizant

PART 1:

It all started on 11th August 2019 when I took the HCG test at home which came positive & a gush of mixed emotions swept in. I was happy, excited, scared & anxious all at the same time. I missed my love by my side when I got this wonderful news as I was at my parents' place that time. I gave the news to him by sending a picture of the test result & so was his reaction as we were not yet tuned on to the idea of having kids. However, by the end of that day an overwhelming feeling of joy had taken over our other emotions. I got the official confirmation on 15th Aug and so it begun.

A few weeks before, our good friend shared that she was expecting and have joined pregnancy classes & wished for me to join her soon. She introduced me to a wonderful person – Dr. Barkha Nagpal
I spent the initial 4 months at my parents' place with lot of pampering & was scared of even walking a little fearing it could harm my pregnancy. I did not have any idea of labour or delivery then & was under a preconceived notion that c-sec would be a better option as trying for normal might put my baby under distress during delivery.

As I entered my 5th month I decided to go back to my hubby in Nagpur & come back to Hyderabad for my delivery. I was little concerned if he would be able to take care of me, but I realized that my fear was meaningless as he became a mother, father, friend to me & showed that true love can make you do things that you have never done before!

My friend whom I mentioned earlier had also been learning HypnoBirthing for easy & comfortable birthing with Dr. Barkha & suggested that I should join. Though I did not have much confidence if I will be able to exercise or practice HypnoBirthing, I just agreed to give it a try as my husband was very much interested in me doing it.
