cleanrecipes I went into the city for a camera class yesterday and had a delicious lunch @beyondsushinyc with @almondbutterisabelle ! We got their seasonal special bowl, the chickpea tahini salad, and the pickle me roll. I gotta say the roll and the chickpeas were by far the highlight! cleanrecipes I gotta say I’m ending this week of sauces on quite the high note. This miso teriyaki sauce is so amazing and is perfect for a quick stir fry lunch or dinner! 
In a pan combine veggies, 1 tsp olive oil, 1.5 - 2 Tbsp teriyaki coconut aminos depending on how sweet you want it (if you can’t find this sub plain coconut aminos + 1/2 tsp garlic and 1/2 tsp ginger powder), and 1 tsp miso paste thinned into a liquid with 1 Tbsp water. Keep stirring on high heat until the sauce begins to thicken and the veggies seem to soften a bit. Add frozen edamame and stir for a minute. Then cover with a lid and simmer on low heat for a tiny bit and voilà! This sauce is reminiscent of Asian American takeout without any of the MSG or other questionable ingredients. I’m so proud of this one I hope you guys love it!

Perfect for salads, pasta salad, or used in tuna or chicken salad instead of mayo! You will never have to buy store bought Italian dressing again!

Here’s what you need:
1/3 cup avocado oil
1/2 cup dairy free milk
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tbsp dijon mustarrd
2 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
3/4 tsp salt
Shake all the ingredients up in a mason jar with a tight fitting lid. Store in the fridge for up to a week.

I've used this recipe several times and it's my favorite way to cook mussels. It's also very forgiving and versatile. I've found you don't really have to worry about exact measurements and you can add/sub other ingredients(lemon, olive oil, herbs etc.) to suit your taste. One thing you should be selective though, is the quality of the mussels. The mussels I use today are the New Zealand Greenshell™ mussels. Native to New Zealand, these mussels are juicy and meaty. Once steamed, they become perfectly briny and can be eaten as it is, or served with pasta. The resulting broth is very satisfying, especially with a big piece of crusty bread.

I realize this isn't the most picture perfect, but I only have about 10 minutes until my chicken is done, and I slam this bowl of green deliciousness 😍 and I just have to share this creation! Measurements are not exact, but a good guess as to what I just did. Play with it! .
1 bunch of broccoli, 1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, 2TB maple syrup, 2TB lemon juice, 1TB olive oil, 1tsp red wine vinegar, dash of salt, dash of paprika, small handful of sunflower seeds, red seedless grapes (I like a lot of these!! Mix all the wet stuff up, and toss into the dry stuff. All of the flavor 😍🥦 and none of the guilt! .

🏃🏻‍♀️ feeling calmer and clearer.
 I have loved how delicious and simple the meals are and all the fresh ideas that are family friendly. I highly recommend this challenge to all my beautiful mumma friends out there 🤰🏼who are needing that gentle push to move their body again and just fueling the body with clean wholefoods for both themselves and the little ones xx This challenge will finish on Sunday BUT don't panic🙈this one is proving so incredibly successful and loved by all involved that there will be one running on August 5th August!!🤗.

cleanrecipes Hi everyone! 👋🏻 I have been working on some new content and am back to posting regularly, beginning with this delicious pesto!
This was adapted from the pesto recipe in the Whole30 book. Pesto is surprisingly easy to make and elevates any meal. Here I have served it over @eatbanza rigatoni, with some cherry tomatoes and mozzarella. Pesto is delicious with any pasta or, for a Whole30/Paleo option, serve over spaghetti squash and omit the cheese. 
What You Need:
•1/2 cup walnuts
•4 cloves garlic
•3 1/2 cups basil (or 3 oz package)
•1 1/2 cups baby spinach
•1/2 large lemon, juicer
•1/2 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp pepper
•1-1/4 cup EVOO
•Food processor 
What to do:
Toast walnuts in a dry pan over medium high heat for 2-3 minutes, or until they are a darker brown. Be careful not to burn them!
Put walnuts in food processor, add garlic, and pulse 5-6 times until combined. 
Add basil and pulse until basil is broken down. Depending on the size of your food processor, you may need to add it in batches. If I add too much basil at once, it doesn’t get chopped thoroughly. 
Add lemon juice, salt, and pepper, and pulse 3-4 times to combine. 
Add spinach and pulse until broken down. You may need to add this in batches, as well.
Lastly, add olive oil in a steady stream, if possible, while blending on low. If your food processor doesn’t have an opening to add oil while blending, add it in batches (remove lid, add 1/4 cup, replace lid, pulse a few times, repeat).
If after adding 1 cup of oil you want your pesto less chunky, add the remaining 1/4 cup. 
Store in the refrigerator. This amount of pesto lasts my husband and I about 3 days. Enjoy!

1 cup of brown sugar⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1/2 cup of softened butter⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4 Granny Smith apples (cored and sliced)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instructions:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Take a 9x9-inch baking dish and grease it.
2. Preheat your oven to 175 degrees C.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, butter, and cinnamon. Use a fork or a pastry mixer to mix until everything is crumbly. 
4. Take a bit of your flour mixture and lightly sprinkle it on the baking dish that you prepared. 
5. Layer the apple slices on top of the flour mix. 
6. Make alternate layers of mixture and apples. The top-most layer should be apples.
7. Place your baking dish in the preheated oven and bake until apples are tender (about 30-35 min).

I’m a firm believer that if you want a donut, then you deserve to have a donut.

But it’s important to understand that there is a fine line between eating what you enjoy, and eating absolutely anything you want. Unfortunately, it’d be unwise to have ice cream and donuts as every meal.

That’s why it’s so beneficial to learn about nutrition and to understand how/when to make changes to your diet.

Let’s say you’re about to embark on a road trip, and you’re stopping at Dunkin for a cold brew and a quick breakfast. You really want the sausage egg & cheese sandwich, but you also really really want a donut.

Sure, you can certainly have both. But let’s assume you don’t want to consume 1,000 calories for breakfast.

There are obvious ways to save calories, like ordering egg whites with no meat. But you want a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. By making 2 simple swaps and going with turkey sausage and an english muffin instead of a croissant, you can also grab a donut for less calories than the original sandwich you would have ordered (yeah yeah, the sugar content is higher. It’s a donut.) In the end, the sandwiches are the same exact size, it will satisfy your tastes, AND you get the bonus of a donut!

This is the core of flexible dieting. You can enjoy those higher calorie treats with no worries because you keep your calories in check overall. By making small changes to one meal, you can add them back in with others.

When it comes to changing your nutrition, STEP #1 is to learn portion control! That is first thing to practice if you’re new to healthy eating. My fourth meal of the day is somewhere between 2:30 and 3 pm depending on what time I ate the third meal. This fourth meal happens right after I finish a strength focused session. I always gulp down my protein shake immediately after my workout work with dried, dehydrated, or fresh fruit. I do this so the fast sugars in the fruit act like little brooms and sweep the protein in my recovering muscles. I like fruit because the sugars are fast but not in large quantities the way they would be with a sugary drink or juice or candy. QUANTITY and QUALITY of macronutrients MATTER. I have one scoop of Trutein Protein Powder with water (120 calories) + 1 pack of Crispy Fruit Apples (35 calories) immediately after workout. Then about 30

I went into the city for a camera class yesterday and had a delicious lunch @beyondsushinyc with @almondbutterisabelle ! We got their seasonal special bowl, the chickpea tahini salad, and the pickle me roll. I gotta say the roll and the chickpeas were by far the highlight! The bowl was good but it just couldn’t compete with the last special bowl (those sweet potatoes and quinoa crisps will forever remain in my dreams) And now it’s time for me to start getting ready for a nine hour shift at work 😬 Happy Tuesday everyone!

Miami Vice is my favorite drink so I decided to throw together a meal replacement mocktail for breakfast. I made the vanilla/pineapple first, the poured it into the cup. Then I made the second half of the packet with the rest of the vanilla and the red raspberry portion. I added the coconut in between layers because I like it crunchy 😋 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
-a quarter of a banana frozen (I split in amongst both portions of the smoothie)⁣⁣
-raspberries to taste for bottom portion (you can use 🍓 if you prefer)⁣⁣
-frozen pineapple for bottom layer⁣⁣
-ground ginger (I added to both layers)⁣⁣
-almond milk (replace with coconut milk if ya nasty 😜)⁣⁣
-natural flaked coconut to top (I used Aurora brand)⁣⁣
-1 packet vanilla meal replacement ⁣⁣

I hope you give it a try. It’s my new favorite without all of the refined sugar. Yum. Talk about starting your day making your tastebuds smile 🍍 ☀️ ⁣⁣

This Greek zoodle bowl is one of my favorite summer salads. It’s easy to make (no cooking required) and it’s ready in minutes.

Add your favorite protein or enjoy it as is, it’s up to you!

The recipe can be modified based on what you have on hand but my favorite version of this Greek zoodle bowl has:
- zucchini noodles
- cucumber
- chopped bell pepper
- tomatoes
- capers
- artichoke hearts - fresh mint and parsley
- homemade Greek dressing (red wine vinegar, olive oil, oregano, salt and garlic powder)

½ cup dried, sliced shiitake mushrooms⁠⠀
2/3 packet soba noodles⁠⠀
2 handfuls baby spinach⁠⠀
1 Bok choy, washed and finely sliced⁠⠀
8 radish, thinly sliced⁠⠀
1 cup edamame beans⁠⠀
1 avocado, sliced⁠⠀
4 sheets nori, roughly torn/sliced⁠⠀
2 tablespoons sesame seeds ⁠⠀

Dressing: Dressing: 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons tamari, 1 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 tablespoon ginger. ⁠⠀

Directions⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Place the shiitake noodles in a bowl and pour over some boiling water. Meanwhile, cook the soba noodles according to packet instructions, then drain. Combine the spinach, bok choy and radish and place in four bowls. Divide the chicken, edamame and avocado among the bowls. Next divide the soba noodles, edamame and drained shiitake noodles between the bowls. Top each bowl with nori and sesame seeds. Pour over the dressing and serve.⁠⠀
