So tonight I've been learning to network like a ninja thanks for to Boost; Lancashire's Business Growth Hub. I was able to meet some really incredible people doing amazing things, and learn a trick or two. "Give us a networking tip" I hear you say... Well, what stood out to me the most was the importance of networking strategically; picking the opportunities that are right for you rather than burning yourself out trying to make it to everything. This is particularly important when we talk about wellbeing and personal energy. Your energy is not limitless, you have to be selective about how you use, where you spend it, and who gets to have some. Take care of yourselves. Thank you @brianne_squires for sending this to me a little while ago. It is a much needed reminder to MYSELF that my time, talents, investments, training, resources, and sacrifices have value and worth. It is okay if some don’t see that. It doesn’t lower my value of who I am as a birth doula or business woman. I am not entitled to give any of me away because others aren’t able to see the worth. #facts 🙌💯
My heart is for all women to have the birth support they want and need, but what I do(ula) is valuable and hard and so very wonderful! I do go out of my way and budget to help meet the needs of a mother sincerely desiring doula support when she financially cannot make it happen because I see what the vast majority of women go through just to give birth in safety and peace.
Why don’t hospitals make it mandatory for every women to have a birth advocate based on **THE BIRTHING PERSON’S** needs?? Nurses get tired and OB’s become impatient so it makes sense to provide a guide and voice of support so that women aren’t subjected to the liability standards or preference of a practice...
👉Side note: I couldn’t even imagine what a hospital would bill your insurance for a hospital-staffed doula!👈 😂 I, personally, come loaded with oils, body butters/lotions, tools for comfort, information that goes against the grain, paid for training tools for techniques to labor naturally and encourage physiological birth, hours upon hours of research to better serve and inform you, tips for baby’s descent, a personal bond with you, ... the list goes on.
So before you ask why you have to pay “so much” for a doula, ask yourself what you’re missing out on when you don’t have a birth doula. If your list is made up of at least 1 or more reasons, GET A DOULA!! Make it happen— somehow Christmas rolls around, and we find away to pack our trees high full of stuff. Birth is an experience that stamps an impression on your heart for a life time, good or sad. .
