nothing i love more than a good lox plate!! feeling grateful to have slow mornings like these during the week. sometimes i feel like i never stop working, whether it’s creating content or practicing speech path.

balanceddiet i feel really grateful that i’ve come to a place of peace with my eating habits. lately i haven’t been hungry after waking up. i’ve been listening to that body cue and waiting until lunchtime to eat. but this morning, i woke up STARVING.
almost 2 years ago i was so caught up in a pattern of intermittent fasting that if there was ever a day when i woke up hungry, i’d pound coffee to quiet the noise. i’ve been nervous that this unintentional fasting was going to put me back in the same place i was in 2018.
but this morning, when i woke up hungry, i immediately went to the store to get all my favorite breakfast foods. i came home, cooked, ate and ENJOYED.
it’s taken a lot of time and hard work for me to reach this place but it feels so good to know that i’m taking the steps to do what’s right for ME, in the moment. without expectation or judgement.
if you choose to fast, that’s great! if you don’t, that’s great too! doing what feels intuitively right for YOUR body in YOUR time is the most important thing.

balanceddiet double chocolate MUG CAKE topped with allll the peppermint goodness. freaking WHAT 🤤 the simplicity to deliciousness ratio on this is freaking UNREAL. 10 minutes in total to make the cake, throw some peppermint @getskinnydipped on top and you’ve got yourself heaven in a mug!! it’s a serious decadent combination of chocolate + mint. no gluten, dairy, or refined sugar!

ingreeeeeds:
5 heaping Tbs almond flour
3 Tbs coconut sugar
2 Tbs cacao powder
1 Tbs pecan butter
1 Tbs unsweetened almond milk
1 egg
1 Tbs coconut oil (melted + cooled)
1/4 cup @getskinnydipped peppermint almonds
optional: melted white chocolate + candy cane
:: mix together dry ingredients in one bowl. mix wet ingredients in mug. add dry to wet + mix. you can add chocolate chips or even almonds into the mix. microwave for 60 seconds. add @getskinnydipped on top and even some peppermint candy cane! drizzle white chocolate, optional. balanceddiet Did you know that lean ground turkey and lean ground beef have basically the same macros?? If you get both the 93% lean variety, it’s pretty equal. The turkey has 10 less calories per serving, but the ground beef has 2 more protein.

This is why it’s important to learn how to properly read food labels. Simply getting ground turkey cause you think it’s the “healthier” option, just isn’t the case.

SO it’s basically just a taste preference thing. If we are making something like tacos, we usually use the ground beef for a little more flavor. If we are making spaghetti- we typically reach for the ground turkey.

However, you can get 99% fat free ground turkey that is basically no fat. It does get a little dry and lacks a lot of flavor, but with some simple tweaks (add in bone or chicken broth at the end of cooking, throw in a laughing cow cheese wedge or two) you can make it taste pretty good.

Plus, ground beef or turkey are both super easy things to meal prep in advance. Simply cook a big batch and store in your fridge to throw in a crunch wrap, mix with scrambled eggs, toss on a salad, or serve with some noodles.

By following strict rules and eliminating entire food groups, I wasn’t getting enough calories or a variety of nutrients in my diet. 👎 My dietitian’s main concern was actually the LACK of fats in my diet, which was impacting my health in obvious ways (such as hair, skin, nails, etc.). Your body needs carbs AND fats to function. They are NOT the enemy.

Good morning everyone! I’ve been switching up my breakfasts lately and today I decided to give a sweet stuffed sweet potato a try.
