‼️ATTENTION It’s a very important day today & no I’m not getting political! I found I have an onion emoji 🧅 and what better way to celebrate than a throwback to my first ever onion grown from seed this year 🥳 there’s also a garlic too possibly the two most used ingredients in this house and a keeper in the veg patch despite the underwhelming rust ridden 🧄I had to use it 😉 and the same goes for your vote please use it whoever you decide to back happy grey windy soggy Thursday from my corner of Cornwall keep smiling 💚ps despite popular demand Buddy is not a candidate 🐾 but he appreciates the support @snewland97 🤣#justvote#gyo#onions#fromseed#kitchengarden#allotment#growyourown#veggies#greenthumb#gardening
#tbt to when the gardens were running at 100%. (This also happens to be one of my most liked photos of 2019. Thank you IG algorithm? 🤷♂️).
Seriously tho, I'm so disappointed with grocery store produce these days. Maybe it's because I know what fresh homegrown food tastes like (what food is supposed to taste like)! As much as I appreciate the break from the garden over the winter months I do miss those spring/summer/fall harvests that I take for granted.
Today we stripped down the ivy from these apple trees and pruned them a bit. Who knows, the apples might not skip a year after all. So much life under the ivy, nesting in it, even earthworms, etc, eyes opening. Left ivy on top, it’ll die off but they can still nest? #volunteering#communitygardening#allotment#organicgardenig
Our first time making hoshigaki , 😅💚which are persimmons (swipe to see) that are peeled and hung until they shrivel and a natural sugar coating forms on their surface.
The fun fact about Unripe hachiya persimmons: they are crazy tannic and as they dry and ripen simultaneously, they become super sweet like dates! 😋
Happy Friday friends! 💚🤗🍎
You know your kids grow up on a homestead when they eat coriander straight from the packet 😂 Reminder to self...must grow more coriander next year to keep up with these huge caterpillars!

Well I've set my heart on this beautiful table. I sent it to my partner asking if he can make something similar and he said 'absolutely'. Now I am super excited and can't wait for some dry weather.
Do you have a potting bench? Tag me in them so that I can have a look for some more inspiration please 😍🍄🍓

My summer kale hasn't completely died yet, but it looks like the deer have found it now, lol.
Mabel ❤️❤️ week two with this little (big) golden shepherd - we have been to puppy club which she loved, barked a lot, made some friends, had lots of treats and had her ears cleaned .. she is on a raw diet, which I was against at first as I am not a meat eater but seems to work for her, one more injection and we can start walking which I know will be exciting for both of us - can’t wait to show her the allotment 🌱🐶 #goldenshepherd#rawfood#allotment#puppy
I've been hiding away these past few days. Nursing my wounds but comforted by your messages of support. Some made me smile and others had me welling up in tears. Heartfelt condolences from people who have lost their own pets -- cats, dogs, horses, hens, it doesn't matter. Animals carve their names into our hearts and losing them is painful. So much so that it takes my breath away. Louis' sister Cheebies has suffered the most these past days though. In retrospect, we should have brought Louis home for her to see before handing him over for cremation. She's been crying for him since Tuesday and searching the house for him constantly. It broke my heart to hear her distressed cries and see her wet bottom when she wet the bed last night. She does that when she's stressed, like a human child would. We're doing our best to keep her in cuddles, playtime, and love. She's sleeping peacefully on my lap for the moment.
I've not gotten to the point where I can talk about Louis without bawling but I hope to eventually honor my little guy on my blog or YouTube.
Most references to cats in the garden online are negative. Complaints about cats defiling garden beds or killing birds or eating hedgehog food. Having my cats in the garden gives me nothing but joy though. They're inquisitive little sidekicks as you'll have seen from many of my videos.
So I'd like your tips and ideas for ways that cats and gardeners can co-exist without the claws coming out. Ways to keep them from using garden beds for litter trays, keeping birds safe, and creating more harmony. I'd love to hear more about your experience with catios too. Thank you for leaving your thoughts and ideas as a comment.
PS -- this is Louis in September 2018, before the first sniffles and wheezes, and when he was enjoying helping me in the new back garden. I miss him so much 💔
It’s the time of year when I tend to look back over what’s happened, my ups and downs and to think about what I’m looking forward to as a new year approaches.
This has been my first twelve months of ‘doing Instagram’ and I’ve made some lovely new friends. It’s great to know there are so many genuinely nice people out there in the world.
I do normally post pics about gardening and flowers etc but today’s post is a very happy memory of my favourite day whilst out working. I was with a colleague who has since moved on to bigger and better things. This chap had us laughing our heads off.
Cheers to the weekend 😋😋 #friendship#laughter#hello
Aloha liebe Leute 👋🏽

(Odd to someone from the UK). An amazing decoration that you can walk inside to see thousands of sparkling lights and a star glistening above you in the dark skies. Feel genuinely content, that part of me still enjoys how certain aspects of Christmas can bring joy. Even the little joys of Christmas have not faded as the process of my own passage of time has happened for this allotmenteer :-) One who is looking forward to the journey back home since working away for a while and to catch up on what Christmas brings back in the little old village he misses with a plot of rented ground. One where sanctuary and a quiet peacefulness can hopefully be found this Sunday...

Hummelschaukel - winterfest
Bog sage - protected from frost
The bog sage (Salvia uliginosa) with its sky blue filigree flowers was blooming the whole summer and autumn long. Bumblebees loved it. Unfortunately, the South American is not hardy, which I had not considered when I enthusiastically bought it in the nursery. Not ready to abandon I covered it thickly with straw, put a fleece on it and now strongly hope that it will not be freezing to death and that we will see each other next spring.

Out hiking today the trail cut through an allotment and I seen this. I’m sure there’s a story or two why he put a satellite dish on his shed. Maybe he got in the dog house a lot? When I grow up I want one too 😀
After the disaster that was yesterday and overnight I felt I needed to do something positive and constructive this morning, so we finally got the bits of shed over to the allotment and got it built.
Now it's got a shed on it it's a proper allotment. The world is still going to hell in a handbasket, but now at least we have somewhere to hide... #allotmentuk #allotment#allotmentgarden #allotmentnewbies #allotmentlove #allotmentlife #penarth#shed#sheds

I can’t wait for the plants to wake up and to start planting seeds again. Growing food has become such a big part of my life and happiness that I miss it intensely through the Winter. I am growing things, bits and bobs here and there but it’s not the same as walking out into a food jungle...beneath the glorious sunshine, surrounded by warm air and hearing the bird song all day long 🌸👩🏼🌾🌳🍃🕊
Despite having a big #garden of my own there isn't enough space to achieve some of the things I want to. So with that in mind I have now also taken on an #allotment - say hello to plot 5A!
It's going to involve quite a bit of work but hopefully by the time sping is here I should have several beds sorted. Most of my #veg#growig will move to the plot leaving the garden free for other projects.
2020 is going to be one very busy #gardening year for me!
