mindfulness Our thoughts influence how we feel and behave towards a situation. This is the basic concept behind cognitive behavioral therapy. In this post, I share with you some examples of cognitive distortions we may have when experiencing symptoms of the impostor syndrome (described in last info post). Cognitive distortions are irrational, inflated thoughts that negatively distort our perception of reality. They play a significant role in perpetuating our psychopathological states (i.e. depression/anxiety). These maladaptive thought patterns are usually automatic and can be difficult to identify if we aren’t aware of them.

A reminder: growth was never about becoming "better", finally having it all together, or never having a hard time again. Growth is about finding the capacity within us to make a compassionate and supportive home for *all* parts of us. May we remember it's okay to forget this sometimes. May we remember this during the moments of forgetting. ✨🔸

Ik kan soms met verbazing verschillende post lezen over:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- hoe krijg ik geen honger⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- hoe stel ik mijn honger uit?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- etc.... blah blah blah⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Natuurlijk kun je ergens trek in krijgen, terwijl je lichaam daar niet om vraagt. Maar wanneer je maag rommelt, je lichaam flauw voelt of wanneer je begint te bibberen dan is er maar 1 ding te doen:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

mindfulness Omelet with mushrooms, corn, red sweet pepper and a bit of white cheese, a slice of bread, red pepper hummus and my coffee. 
Delicious, I guarantee. The omelet I made using a olive oil spray and I just sprinkled some in the pan. It was enough.

It doesn't not make me better physiotherapist but personally I liked to practice what I preach and that is 'sustainability for body, mind and planet'. My phyique is a big part of my personal sustainable lifestyle.

One of the most important things we didn't learn studying is that we as physiotherapists also need to make a business. Personally I like to do a lot through social media to get exposure for my ideas and work.
- 
Physical as well as mental coaching and training is getting a bigger role within physiotherapy. But why is a shirtless Physio so much different from example a Personal trainer who is posting shirtless pics? 
Personally I don't get it. At the moment i think the world of healthcare is still a bit prudish. Hopefully in the future this will change a bit.

mindfulness Goedemorgen, mooie dinsdag! ☕️ 384.400 km. 
Zo ver is het tot de maan. Dat is ongeveer 160 uur rijden (gemiddelde snelheid van 100 km/uur). Das te doen, toch? 
Zo simpel is het natuurlijk niet. Dus pak die koelbox nog maar niet in. Je moet ook nog een flinke dosis training, doorzettingsvermogen en een Space Shuttle hebben. En dan ben je er natuurlijk nog steeds niet. 
Wij van Joy2Work hebben ook een 'maan'. Een puntje op de horizon waar wij naartoe werken. Onze missie gaat niet richting ruimte, maar blijft liever met beide benen op de grond. Toch kun je beide missies wel met elkaar vergelijken. 
Wij hebben een droom. Die droom is binnen handbereik. Wij dromen die droom niet alleen voor onszelf. Net als de astronaut doen wij dit voor iedereen om ons heen. De astronaut kwam na zijn reis terug met een nieuwe blik op de wereld. Hij kwam terug met vernieuwd respect voor onze prachtige planeet. 
Wij hebben die nieuwe visie ook al lang ontdekt en het is onze missie om die nieuwe manier van kijken over de wereld te verspreiden. 
Iedereen heeft talent. Iedereen heeft mogelijkheden. Belemmeringen en beperkingen zijn onbelangrijk. Het gaat erom wat jouw kracht is. Niemand is minder dan de ander. 'Opleiding', 'studie' en 'diploma' zijn slechts woorden. 'Achtergrond' is verleden. Het gaat erom wat jij nu in dit moment kan doen om de wereld een beetje beter te maken.

Gerade in den letzten Monaten spüre ich immer wieder ein gewisses Spannungsfeld: Auf der einen Seite achtsam im Augenblick lebend – ohne Erwartungen einfach dem Leben hingebend. Auf der anderen Seite fokussiert einer Vision folgend – mit Flow Erfolge feiernd. Wie zwei unterschiedliche Leben. Kann man im Hier und Jetzt leben und gleichzeitig einen Lebensplan verfolgen?⁣

Ich denke nicht, dass es eine Entscheidung für einen der beiden Wege braucht, obwohl sie extreme Unterschiede aufweisen. Es ist ein pulsierendes Ein- und Ausatmen. Dabei versuche ich stets meinem augenblicklichen Bedürfnis Vorrang zu geben. Sozusagen eine achtsame Vision zu leben.⁣

I decided instead of getting up when everyone else did I wanted to get up that bit earlier to allow myself to have time for me. Waking up early has so many benefits. I get to sit with my favourite coffee in the quiet and enjoy every sip whilst it's still hot. I can sit in the garden watching the sun rise and hear the birds singing with no interputions. I can read that extra chapter of the book that I couldn't finish the day before. I get to complete my daily skin care routine with no interputions, I can just sit, slow down and do absolutely nothing. Whatever you decide to do, starting your day that bit earlier allows time for you. Whether you do something or do nothing you can just be. Just sit and be. It's so important to have some you time. Get up that bit earlier and spend time on you, I promise you it will set you up for the day and be a positive change. Try it one day this week and let me know how you get on💖

Like when the cows are being let out in the fields again after a winter inside 🐮

It was my children's first day back at school today after eight or so weeks of hibernation and, to be honest, it felt like a wrench. Before we set off my eyes continually flicked back and forth to the clock. So, of course, when uncomfortable feelings arose I resisted them and felt like I must be getting something wrong. It seems that what I was getting "wrong" was simply not knowing or accepting that emotions are an essential, unavoidable and actually rather beautiful aspect of being human. It tends to be our relationship with them that causes us the most difficulty - in meditation and outside of it. The habit of clinging to pleasant emotions and avoiding or resisting uncomfortable ones is a pattern many of us fall into. Meditation can become a safe place to explore and befriend all of our feelings with kindness and curiosity. It can be an opportunity to get more intimate with our experiences, make a comfortable home for them and perhaps even grow wiser from them. It also gifts us with the knowledge that everything changes - emotions arise and pass away just like everything else. In this way meditation is not so much about self-improvement (which is often self-hatred in disguise) but more a radical act of love. What better reason could there be to do it? this afternoon, I went on my favorite hike alone.

there’s a clearly marked path on the trail, but there is one place with a fork in the road. if you veer right at this split on the mountain, it will take you to a smaller trail, where wood chips line the ground instead of dirt. following this trail, you’ll pass a few benches made from halved tree trunks and eventually end up at a wooden staircase that leads to a little hidden amphitheater. there is a small wooden stage surrounded by teered seating.

today, I took this small path off the main road for the first time since elementary school. I used to come here all the time for field trips when I was little, learning about the mulch and the native plant species. we always ate our sack lunches in this amphitheater and usually ended up doing a talent show of some sort on the stage.

it was amazing to visit this space over a decade later. it made me feel old, kind of? thinking about how long it’s been since then and how much life I’ve lived. but it also made life feel somewhat timeless — the amphitheater and path are the same, wood chips and all.

a song came on my shuffled playlist that ended up perfectly encapsulating my thoughts being here, called “aquí estaré.” it’s kind of a sappy, hopeless romantic type of song in spanish that I listened to staring out the window dramatically during many train rides in spain last year. but translating to, “I’ll be here,” listening to the lyrics felt like a moment of divine connection with my surrounding space, this moment in time, and the hidden amphitheater.

sometimes I get scared during this time that we’ll never return to normal life— of traveling and salsa dancing and concerts and giant birthday parties—after all of this. but today, I felt a little nudge from the universe, a little reminder, that life will be still here, just like the amphitheater. the earth will still be here, too, if we continue to treat it kindly. all of it will be here— waiting for us, ready to support us. it just takes a little bit of patience.
