The two biggest points in this article are the lack of marketing and the lack of innovation/upgrades. The others are deviations of that. For example, one of the biggest things a business owner must do is sell their product, which is also called marketing. When you know how to market, then you know that the "freemium" model may work for your app; specifically, you will know your demographic and what they will be willing to pay, as well as how they are able to pay.
As for the innovations, every company must introduce new platforms and upgrade their service or else go out of business. It makes sense; Apple upgrades its iPhones, Amazon.com adds new services like Audible and Whole Foods, and Walmart (as in Sam Walton's book Made in America) added satellites to allow better distribution. If you do not grow in the
tree service industry, you die, because there is always a next level to attain.
