The reason behind the extinction of Devonian period around 359 million years before present has been ranked. This has been regarded as the five big extinctions of the life form on our Earth. It is still a mystery. The new research shows an explosion of the nearby star have caused the extinction situations in our planet’s history.

Devonian period started across the world and it focused into the two big supercontinents. They are Euramerica and Gondwana. There are two bodies which is going to create the panagea or single world-continent.

The plants are rootless and tiny and it had been turned into the dry land. Within 60 million years, the age observed the growth of plants for the first time having seeds. The plants used genuine wood in the structures initially. There were insects which were tiny wingless. It has similarity with the mites. It had shown their appearance. In the last part of Devonian period, there are trees having genuine roots. The plants have shown signs of evolution in the reproduction of seeds.

There was the explosion of supernova which is the reason behind star 65 light years away from our Earth. The life had come to an end on our Earth at this time. There was warm water in the marine living beings. They were quite influenced by the event of extinction-level.


The cosmic rays were deadline and they had been created at the time of the stellar eruption and it influenced our Earth. The stromatoporoids are the sponges that build the reefs. The corals had been ruined. There was disappearance of the stromatoporoids at the third extinction close to the last part of our Devonian period. The Brachiopods have been living in the reefs and they had disappeared. The trilobites had vanished in those three extinctions. Some trilobites have survived into the Carboniferous Period. This is based on the reports of Sam Noble Museum.


The present studies show the proof of the biodiversity loss. There is a fall in the level of ozone in earth’s atmosphere during the last part of Devonian period. The rocks have been examined across geological layers and there was a boundary in the Carboniferous and Devonian periods. It shows the proof of high level of sunburn observed in the plant fossils. It indicated that the period is long lasting at the time of ozone layer over Earth. This ozone layer saves the living being from the ultraviolent light. This was depleted.


According to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign researcher Dr. Brian Fields, the catastrophes based on earth show significant volcanism along with global warming. It has the capacity of removing the ozone layer. There is no sure shot proof about the time interval. There were supernova explosions and it could one or more than one around 65 light-years from our Earth. For this reason, there has been ozone depletion.


We have come across different supernova explosions and this incident was due to huge red giant star which had collapsed near the last stage of its life. Betelgeuse is the red giant star and there was a phase of dimming. The event has been regarded as the outcome of star releasing that cloud. This had obstructed the light from entering our Earth. The life on our Earth might be cold and the explosion is responsible for the red giant star under 25 light years of the earth. We are fortunate that Gacrux, which is a red giant is about 88 light years from our earth.

According to University of Illinois student named Adrienne Etrtel the closest supernova has been a threats nowadays from a particular star named Betelgeuse. It is approximately 600 light-years away from our earth. It is beyond the distance of around 25 light-years.

There has been a depletion of ozone which is due to the outcome of different triggered in the environment. There are different causes which never match the details observed in our geological record. The team of researchers has found influence of the meteorites. There were solar eruptions along with gamma ray bursts in that environment of our primitive Earth. There were virtual models which showed the ozone loss across the globe. According to Jesse Miller, the student who is a graduate said that the events have stopped instantly and they cannot cause depletion of ozone. It occurred at the last part of our Devonian period. The supernovae offer a strong one-two punch which might destroy a particular environment. There was a strong explosion of the debris of supernova which had collided with Solar System. There was cosmic rays which had caused radiation across the Earth. The ozone layer had been depleted over Earth for approximately 100,000 years!!!
