American Roulette Wheel – Know How to Play American Roulette

As the online gambling industry has been expanding, it now includes multiple variations of the American roulette in its diverse gaming selection. American roulette is among the casino table games that enjoy huge popularity throughout the United States. The game has now become very popular even at casinos in the UK and Asia but is not popular in Europe, as their focus is mainly on the European version of this game. There are websites like JungleRaja where you can enjoy the online version of this game.

Rules of American Roulette

This roulette variation has a spinning wheel that has 38 sockets. The numbers starting from 1 to 36 are colored alternately in black and red. Then there are some single-zero and double-zero sections colored in green. The objective of the game is to be able to forecast the outcome of every spin of the roulette wheel and predict where or which socket will the roulette ball settle in. Players place their bets on a particular number after which the wheel is turned in one direction, and the roulette ball is spun in the opposite direction.

Once all the players are dealt with betting chips, they place their wagers on the roulette table. All the wheel numbers are signified on the table’s layout and thus, the players can easily decide which bet they want to make. They can make either a single bet or even a combination of wagers. Players are allowed to change or even remove their bets even when the wheel is spinning. But once the dealer makes the announcement of ‘no more bets’, then the players cannot change or remove the bets that have been made. After the ball lands in one socket, the dealer announces the final result and the player who guessed the outcome of the game correctly gets paid.

Types of American Roulette Bets

The betting layout in the roulette table has two sections that consist of individual numbers and group bets. There are two types of bets in American Roulette – inside and outside bets. The inside bets can be made on a single number, any adjacent numbers, or small groups of numbers, whereas the outside bets incorporate larger groups of numbers.

Inside Bets

  • Straight-Up Bet: This type of bet is placed on any single number, like “0” and “00”, and placed directly on the number. The payout, in this case, is 35 to 1.
  • Split Bet: It permits players to place their chips on the line that is between any two adjacent numbers. If one of the two numbers on which you have placed your bet wins, then this will pay you 17 to 1.
  • Street Bet: It includes all three numbers in a row and is placed exactly on the line at the end of the row. There are other options available for its placement too, and it can include any numbers like 0, 1, 2; 0, 00, 2; 00, 2, 3. The payout here is 11 to 1.
  • Corner BetThis wagering option offers the players a chance to place a bet on a square of four numbers by putting the chip on the exact corner where these four numbers are touching. In case the player’s guess is right and the ball lands on any of these square numbers, then the payout will be 8 to 1.
  • Five Number Bet: This inside bet is typical only for American roulette as it includes the single and the double zero, along with the numbers 1, 2, and 3. You can make this bet by placing your chip on the corner between 0 and 1. This bet is the only one that has a higher house edge as compared to the rest of the options, but many players avoid making it. In case your guess is correct, then you get a payout of 6 to 1.
  • Line BetThis one features six numbers (two rows of three numbers) and the player can place it at the end of two rows, or on the border between them. The payout in this bet is 5 to 1.

Outside Bets

  • Column BetThis one features an entire column, and the player needs to place it on the “2-1” box at the end of a column. The payout here is 2 to 1.
  • Dozen BetThis betting option includes one of three groups, including 12 numbers. Players can use this option of bet on the 1st 12 boxes (1 to 12), 2nd 12 boxes (13 to 24), or 3rd 12 (25 to 36). The payout of this one is 2 to 1.
  • Bet on ColorIt includes all of the red numbers or all the black numbers on the layout and the player can place it on the “Red” box, that is, all the red numbers or on the “Black” box, that is, all the black numbers. The payout here is 1 to 1.
  • Bet on Odd/EvenThis gives an opportunity to the players to make a wager on all the odd numbers of the roulette wheel or on all the even numbers. If a player places his chip on the “Even” box, then that will obviously include all the even numbers, while the “Odd” box would enable you to bet on all the odd numbers. If you have luck on your side and you have made the right wager, then you will be also be paid even money, similar to the Red/Black bet.
  • Bet on Low/High: It covers all low numbers or all the high numbers, and you can place it on the “Low” box (any number from 1 to 18) or the “High” box (any number from 19 to 36). The payout here is 1 to 1.

The House Edge in American Roulette

American roulette double-zero wheels usually have a basic house edge of 5.26%. This means that in the long run all the players are anticipated to hold 94.74 units of every 100 wagered units. To give a comparative analysis, the house edge on the European roulette (single-zero roulette) is about 2.70%, which leaves punters almost 97.30 units of all placed stakes.
