What is a kidney infection and how it should be treated?

What is a kidney infection and how it should be treated?

Kidney infection also called pyelonephritis is a type of kidney infection caused by bacteria in the urinary tract membrane. It generally starts in the bladder and travels up to the kidneys. It is a serious and painful condition that requires prompt attention. If not given medical attention, a kidney infection can damage both of the kidneys.

In other cases, bacteria reach the blood through the bloodstream and cause serious infection in the kidneys.

So, it is essential to treat it through the ways of Ayurveda because allopathic medicines to cure kidney function may further pose a threat to the kidneys.

The allopathic treatment to cure kidney infection includes antibiotics, hospitalization while ayurvedic treatment for kidney infection may consist of herbal medicines only and some dietary changes.

What are the causes of kidney infection?

Kidney infection is caused by the bacteria that make their way to the urinary tract, which is a tube that passes the urine from the body. From there they multiply and travel up to the kidneys. This is believed to be one of the most common causes of UTI or kidney infection.

Bacteria from the kidneys may move anywhere else in the body. Likewise, bacteria present in the bloodstream anywhere in the body may allow the bacteria to travel up to the kidneys.

Rarely kidney infections are caused by transplant surgery. So, even after transplant surgery, you will need ayurvedic treatment for kidney problem.

Some common risk factors might include:

Gender: Women’s urethra is shorter in women as compared to men, which is why it is easier for bacteria to travel up to the bladder. In women, the urethra is slightly closed to the vagina and anus this also makes it easy for the bacteria to enter the bladder. Once the bacteria enter the body, it spread to the kidneys and elsewhere.

Pregnancy: A pregnant woman is more at the risk of developing kidney or urinary tract infections.

Blockage in the urinary tract membrane: Blockage in the urinary tract membrane includes any condition that obstructs the flow of the urine or reduces the body’s ability to empty the bladder. It may happen because of a kidney stone, abnormal urinary tract structure, enlarged prostate in men or prostate cancer, etc.

Using a catheter tube for urine elimination: The urine catheters drain the urine from the bladder. It is normally inserted in the body because of some medical emergency such as surgery, diagnostic tests, and when you are confined to a bed.

Damage to the nerves around the bladder: Damage to the nerve or spinal cord can block the triggering of a bladder infection and hampers the signal send for the emptying of the bladder. And resultant, patients remain unaware of the fact that they have kidney infection which progresses to kidney damage.

Urine flowing in the wrong direction: In vesicoureteral reflux, a little amount of the urine flows back from the bladder into the ureters. Those people who have this condition are at an elevated risk of kidney infection during adulthood.

Have a weak immune system: Medical conditions also make the immune system faulty, such as HIV, sepsis, inflammatory disease, HIV, diabetes. Some drugs which are used as an anti immunosuppressant during the transplant surgery also have a similar effect and develop the risk of kidney infection.

What are the signs of a kidney infection?

The signs and manifestations of kidney infection may include:

• Fever
• Chills
• Back, side (flank) or groin pain
• Abdominal pain
• Frequent urination
• Strong, persistent urge to urinate
• Burning sensation or pain when urinating
• Nausea and vomiting
• Pus or blood in your urine
• Urine that smells bad or appear cloudy

Prevention

To reduce your risk of kidney infection, first of all take measures to prevent urinary tract infections. Women can avoid the risk of urinary tract infections by:

Drinking plenty of fluids: Fluid help release bacteria from the body

Urinating frequently: Avoid urine retention and empty the bladder when you feel the urge to urinate

Clean carefully: After washing your private areas after urinating or after a bowel movement, wipe back from the front to the back

Avoid feminine products in the genital area: Using deodorant sprays in your genital area can irritate and inflame that part.

What if you have caught kidney infection already?

In the event you have kidney infection already, it is time you should take ayurvedic treatment for kidney infection. Ayurvedic or herbal medicines pose no threat to the kidneys and their function rather they improve the immune system and the healing capacity of the kidneys. Unlike allopathic medicines, the medicines are safe to consume by the patient and ensure overall health improvement.
