4 Things Every Doomsday Prepper Should Have to Fend Off Home Invaders
4 Things Every Doomsday Prepper Should Have to Fend Off Home Invaders

If you are preparing for an emergency, the apocalypse, or any other dangerous scenario, then there are certain items you should stock up on. Doomsday preppers have several competing priorities when preparing their home and family for possible worst-case disaster scenarios. Access to food, water, and other basic necessities is usually the first concern, but home defense against possible invaders is a close second. When disaster strikes, there may be many people left unprepared, or worse, prepared only to take from others. There are dozens of innovative and effective ways to make a home more defensible, but there are at least a few basic things no prepper can do without. Whether you are invested in home defense and survival or just someone trying to care for your family, here are 4 things every doomsday prepper should have to fend off home invaders.

Video Cameras and Optics

Video cameras and optic technology are a major boon to those seeking to protect themselves and their property. Committed preppers often consider a contained surveillance system that provides visibility of all key areas on the property, particularly doors and other access points. Modern home surveillance systems offer many different options when it comes to size and configuration, including the possibility of a protected and wireless network that allows for easy installation. Binoculars and other hand-held optic devices are also a must-have for prolonged power outages and as-needed use. Find a good optic and camera solution for your property so that you can identify and be alerted to potential threats before they harm you.

Reinforced Safe Room

Consider creating a reinforced safe room for added security. Sturdy doors, shatter-resistant windows, and reliable locks are all basic home security measures for a doomsday prepper. However, some take this concept to the next level by also constructing a reinforced safe room in or near their home. Even a small safe space can provide life-saving refuge in the event of a home invasion. At the very least, it gives parents a safe place to send their children if they need to leave the home or believe there is an imminent threat.

Selection of Personal Defense Tools

Every doomsday prepper should also consider investing in a selection of personal defense tools. Non-lethal options, like pepper spray and stun guns, can be a great first line of defense, as there is minimal risk of long-term injury or death. Many preppers also pursue training and licensing in firearms so they can expand their arsenal with more powerful weapons. Light and semi-automatic weapons, like hand guns and AR-15 rifles, are popular choices for home defense.

Basic Self-Defense Training

While training and practice is always a good idea before using a dangerous weapon, a few lessons in hand-to-hand combat can also be invaluable for doomsday preppers. Basic combat skills and physical fitness allow you to adapt to a situation and respond appropriately when confronted with possible dangers. Preppers should also consider other types of critical training, like first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to develop a more comprehensive skill-set.

Implementing a basic home defense strategy entirely depends on your personal desires and goals, so preppers are encouraged to seek out solutions that are comfortable to them. It’s impossible to be ready for everything, but implementing a few basic home defense strategies can add a layer of extra security with minimal cost or inconvenience.
