How to configure your ip address on the PC

Many network routers like Netgear and D-link have as the default ip address or default gateway. With the help of this internet protocol address, one can easily configure your router device connected to the network. Configuration of the ip address is also very simple using the following steps. Depending on your network configuration, the ip address configuration setup from your PC is simple. The home network owners can make use of the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) in order to automatically assign a particular ip address or set you ip address manually.

Configure your ip address with the DHCP:

To perform this ip configuration setup, the network users should have a personal computer with the Windows 2000 or Windows Xp operating system.

In order to use the DHCP for dynamically assigning the ip address, you have to do these following steps.

  1. You have to open the control panel of your network connections on your PC. On many computers, this path will be Start - > control panel - > Network connections.
  2. Right click on the local area connection icon and then click on the properties.
  3. After that, you can select the TCP/IP internet protocol from the components list and click on the properties.
  4. Note down your current internet protocol TCP/IP properties. If your network computer is already configured with the ip address, you have to write down the internet protocol address and also the subnet mask. Now, you may have to get back to the original configuration of your PC.
  5. From the properties window of the TCP/IP, you have to click on the obtain DNS server address automatically and obtain the internet protocol address automatically.

  2. If your router device connected to the network is using the default ip address as the and the subnet mask is actually, you need to set your PC ip address to along with the same subnet mask address.
  3. In the next step, you have to open the control panel page of the network connections on your PC using the path Start - > control panel - > network connections.
  4. Right click on your local area connection icon and select the properties.
  5. Now, you have to choose the internet protocol TCP/IP address from the components list and just click on its properties.
  6. Similarly to the previous steps, take note of the current properties of TCP/IP and set back your PC to the original configuration.
