4 Easy Ways to Boost Your Curb Appeal
4 Easy Ways to Boost Your Curb Appeal

Your curb appeal is the first thing anybody will notice about your home, so you need to make sure that it doesn’t look shabby, to avoid coming off as sloppy yourself. A neglected lawn, peeling paint, dead potted plants and light bulbs that died six months ago but you never got around to changing them are just some of the biggest no-nos when it comes to your curb appeal.

So, if you’ve lived like this, now’s the time to change. Here, we’ve prepared a list of some basic things you can do that will instantly elevate your curb appeal and make your home look cozy and welcoming on the outside, as we’re sure it does on the inside.

Mow that lawn

Let’s start from the ground up – quite literally. As with everything else, if you create a good foundation, everything else that needs to be done will be much easier. Therefore, get that lawnmower out of your garage and get to work. Once everything is nice and trimmed (and all the garbage removed) you can move on to planting your favorite plants and flowers.

When plants are concerned, you should stick to native plants to reduce the amount of necessary maintenance and provide a natural habitat for various insects and small birds. As for the flowers, you can plant them in pots and move them around as you see fit, or when you get bored with the original layout.

Paint that house

Once your lawn is nice and neat, it’s time to show your house the same amount of love. So, grab that paint brush and get to work. It’s really important that you choose only top quality outdoor paint to avoid having to redo this every couple of months.

Finally, strip your deck, deck railing and stairs of old lacquer, and apply a fresh coat to give it its old shine back. These two simple tasks will instantly elevate the look of your home and make it look fresh and clean.

Light it up

Since you’ve already put so much effort into making your home look beautiful, why not light the entire place up, just like Aussies do? Aside from changing all the dead light bulbs, you can even add additional lighting solutions to both your house front, as well as throughout the yard.

For the yard, you can choose to go with solar lights and light up the path leading to your front door. On the other hand, when it comes to adding more lighting fixtures, you should ask an experienced Sydney electrician for help, as electricity is definitely something you should not tamper with on your own.

Make it more inviting

Finally, you can make your home look more inviting by adding a few things here and there to your front deck. For example, consider refreshing or replacing your front deck furniture and adding some comfortable pillows and blankets for when the evenings are no longer warm; create a romantic feel by hanging some string fairy lights and potted plants and even add some sheer curtains to tie the design together.

Also, you can choose to install a quirky mailbox and paint your fence in some vibrant shade that will match either your house or your front door in color. Finally, you can come up with a creative way of making your front door stand out from the rest by hanging something like a small writing board, a nice, intricate wreath or adding a monogram welcoming mat. The choice is entirely up to you, but you should try to be as original as possible.

As you can see, boosting your curb appeal is no rocket science. It’s actually quite easy and fun, and the best thing is that you can turn the majority of the things that need to be done into fun DIY projects where your entire family can take part and have their say. So, what are you waiting for? Go make that house beautiful again!
