One of the biggest babies born in Germany was born last week in the Hospital of the University of Leipzig.

The little girl, Jasleen, weighs a whopping £13.47 and measured approximately 23 cm long.

She was born vaginally, and not via a caesarean section, according to a release from the hospital.

"We expected that the child would be huge," said Holger Stepan, head of obstetrics. "We prepared in advance band had an assembly of special doctors and midwives to be ready for all the possible complications".

One of the Doctors said said that he had never before helped the birth of such a heavy child.

The girl's mother suffered from gestational diabetes, which, when not treated or uncontrolled, can cause babies to be born much larger than normal.

Her condition was not discovered until the mother herself visited the hospital during labour. She had never been a patient there.

The hospital said the mother and child are doing well.

According to the website of Guinness World Records, the heaviest baby - weighing more than 23 pounds - was born in Seville, Ohio, January 19, 1879. He died 11 hours later.
