Measuring & Fence Selection

Choosing the right fence is integral to your happiness. When considering purchasing fence materials it is important to consider longevity, the type of wood and style. Like the automotive industry fencing has its parallels. At DynaTimber, we have various price options to suit your needs. Whether you want to buy that “high end hotrod” or that “economy cruiser fence”, consult our resellers. At DynaTimber we have both our DynaWood & DynaEdge Lines.

In measuring your fence, you will need to determine your property line, proposed fence area, and location of gates. It is important when determining property line that you using your latest land survey, adversely your utility company can help. Once the property line has been established, the proposed fence line along with measurements (of the fence perimeter) need to be made. A common tool in the measuring process is the usage of a measuring wheel. While many handy men will resort to measuring tape, it is important to maximize your time, while considering efficiency. Thus, when all has been obtained it is important to mark your perimeter and edges with spray paint.

Next determine where you would like your gates. This can be done by spraying parallel lines next to your perimeter lines. It is important to document the correct sizes in relation to the fence footage, thus subtract your gate footage from the fence footage. When this has been accomplished you have now determined your lineal footage of your fence, this number can then be divided by the length of panels you wish to use for the construction of your fence. To do this correctly, divide the footage of fence with your panel width. If your construction is with pickets determine your picket width and spacing between pickets. It is a rule of thumb for panels and partial panels to add two to derive the total fence panels needed.

Digging Holes& Concrete Pouring

With a digging tool, or if your fortunate to have a post hole digger, dig your hole 3 times wider then your post. The depth of the hole should half as deep as the post. It is important when digging to consider of utility lines or pipes. Thus, when comparing measurements of your fence a 6-foot-high fence requires a hole that is 6 feet deep, and in comparison, a 4-inch-wide post requires a 12-inch hole. Once digging has been finalized add concrete and gravel. This will now give you the opportunity to attach your fence post. Many DIY’s choose to lay rope around the perimeter to ensure when attaching the rails and panels that all placements are exact.

Adding rails & panels

Add your rails and panels/pickets to post once the concrete has set. Individual pickets are often more attractive on slopes. Once all work has been finalized attach post caps.
