Are you allergic to food items, pollen grains, sting bite, certain drugs and many more? Though, healthy people are happy with seasonal changes but people with allergies run for their life. Allergies are the results of our immune system’s response to an allergen which is not harmful in real. It is known that there is no permanent cure for allergies but herbs are quite effective to manage the allergy symptoms.

It occurs when the body encounters a particular allergen immunoglobulin E (IgE) which regulates the hyperactivity of white blood cells which further results in several forms of allergic reaction.Sneezing, runny and stuffy nose, itching in eyes, nose or roof of the mouth, watery, red or swollen eyes (conjunctivitis), cough, chest  congestion, wheezing, Shortness of breath, hives, rashes etc. are various symptoms  which a lot of allergic people may experience.

Turmeric

  • It is packed with bioactive compounds, curcumin which acts as an amazing decongestant. It works well to manage the symptoms of allergies. It also acts as a natural antihistamine that helps to reduce the release of histamines in the body and also inhibit mass cell degranulation. Besides this, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this herb are quite helpful to decrease the allergy symptoms.

Directions for use:

  • Add one and a half teaspoonful of turmeric in a glass of water. Drink it once or twice daily.
  • Take one to half teaspoon of turmeric powder and one tablespoon of raw honey. Mix them and consume twice daily.
  • Boil turmeric powder, black pepper and honey in milk. Consume this concoction twice in day.

Garlic:

  • Garlic is also considered as a wonderful remedy to manage the symptoms of an allergy. This herb has great medicinal importance in Ayurveda to manage the allergies. It acts as an antibiotic and also helps to boost up the immune system.

Directions for use

  • Consume 2-3 cloves of garlic in the morning daily.

Holy basil:

  • It is commonly called as Tulsi and considered as a holy plant in India. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immuno modulator and anti-histamine properties. It also boosts up the immune system and increases the body’s ability to fight against infections.

Directions for use

  • Boil the tulsi leaves in a cup of water.  Strain it and drink the decoction twice in a day.

Neem

  • To alleviate the symptoms of allergies, use of neem is quite effective.
  • This herb acts as a wonderful detoxifier. Its internal intake helps to eliminate all the impurities from the body whereas local application is quite good to provide relief in rashes, itching etc.

Directions for use

  • Take the neem leaves and boil them in water for 10- 15 minutes. Strain and drink one cup daily.
  • Dry the neem leaves and grind it to a fine powder.  Consume it with water once or twice in a day.
  • Make a paste by mixing the powder of neem powder in water. Its local applications is good to manage the rashes and itching.

Liquorice

  • Use of this herb is known to be quite helpful in managing the symptoms of allergies like sneezing, cough, and congestion. This herb is packed with anti-inflammatory and immune system properties.

Directions for use

  • Crush Liquorice roots to obtain fine powder. Consume one teaspoon full of powder with water one – two times daily.

Tinospora (Giloy)

  • Tinospora has great medicinal importance in Ayurveda to manage the allergies. Being packed with anti-inflammatory, antihistamine properties, it is quite good to manage allergies. It works well to manage the symptoms like watery, red or swollen eyes (conjunctivitis), cough, chest, hives, rashes, congestion, wheezing, shortness of breath, etc.

Directions for use

  • Consume 40-50 ml of Tinospora juice once or twice daily.

Gooseberry (Amla)

  • It is a great source of vitamin c and also acts as a powerful anti-oxidant. Anti-histaminic activities of this herb hinders the stimulation of chemicals which result in allergic reactions.

Directions for use

  • One can consume fresh 1-2 Gooseberries daily.
  • Another option is to consume 25 to 30 ml of Gooseberry juice on a daily basi
