Stroke is a brain condition, which occurs due to blood leakage or blockage in our brain, stroke is similar to a heart attack, which makes it’s a medical emergency.
According to the best interventional radiologist in Delhi-NCR Stoke is one of the major leading cause of death in India, one main reason for that is high saturated fat diet and sedentary lifestyle of people. This condition is concerning as there is hike of stroke cases in younger ones.
How stroke occurs
There is sudden burst in blood vessels of brain, and this leaked blood in our brain puts pressure around our skull which leads to brain injury.
There are two major reasons which causes bursting of our blood vessels
High Blood-pressure: there can be many reasons for high level of blood pressure from hypertension to metabolic disorders like diabetes
Brain Aneurysms: these aneurysms can occur in any part of our body, but when they get formed in our brain then a ruptured aneurysm can cause life-threatening conditions like stroke.
In other cases there is blockage in our blood vessels, which deprives our healthy brain cells from oxygen rich blood, and leads to the death of thousands cells in our brain.
Reasons of blockage in our brain
Carotid Artery Stenosis: these arteries are located in our both sides of neck which supplies blood to our brain, and there can be blockage in arteries due to plaque build-up or atherosclerosis.
Intracranial Stenosis: when there is narrowing in an artery inside the brain due to plaque build-up, this plaque can be caused by high-blood pressure or high level of cholesterol in our blood
Types of stroke
There are three types of strokes which are commonly seen
Ischemic acute Stroke: this stroke is caused by blockage of blood vessels in our brain
Brain Hemorrhage: this stroke is caused by bleeding in brain, which kills brain cells
TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack): this mini stroke is often warning of full-blown stroke, even though you may recover in minutes, but it increases your chances of having major stroke.
Symptoms of stroke
If you are experiencing any of the below mentioned symptoms then seek immediate medical attention
Interventional radiology procedures are the most effective one in case of stroke, your interventional radiologist will perform image guided minimally invasive treatments for the management of stroke.
Treatment depends upon the reasons of stroke, in case of blocked artery endovascular stenting method is used to open up the artery, and in case of clot a catheter is inserted to inject the drugs to dissolve the clot.
These methods are quick, and resulting, but when a patient is admitted within 4 hours of onset of stroke then the chances of survival are very high.
